"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.
7 western media organisations have called me to ask how the Kenyan who died from Ebola was able to go through Uganda.
7!!
Our beloved Kenyans have strict Ebola controls at JKIA.
Shouldn’t you be asking how he got through those controls.
Leave Uganda out of this conversation.
We don’t have Ebola here.
Thanks.
President @KagutaMuseveni today joined fellow leaders, including Kenya’s President William Ruto, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Togo’s President Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové and Benin’s President Patrice Talon, at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu, Kenya.
I thank President William Ruto for inviting me to Lamu County, for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery.
I am happy to see Africa waking up and moving away from the 70-year betrayal of exporting raw materials. Mr Dangote, who started as an importer and has become a national and continental asset, is a good example of the transformation we need.
President Ruto: “I want to thank our father, President Museveni. When we sat down with Aliko Dangote, it was your vision that brought us this far. Mzee, we don’t take your vision for granted. You are the one who pushed us.”
Kabumba Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, you were right; what awaited you in heaven was so much more glorious! Amooti, may you celebrate with your King of Kings!
This morning, I was in Mbale City, where I officially opened the renovated Mount Elgon Hotel. The restoration has preserved this historic landmark’s architectural heritage while introducing modern hospitality facilities. The hospitality industry is an important part of the service sector, creating jobs, supporting businesses and contributing to economic growth.
