These songs were written and recorded when I still lived next to a freight train and oil pipeline in NW Indiana, before my move to Chicago. I soaked up the hypnotic drone of the trains every night as I slept and only now am realizing their influence on my music
Editing vocals for my new album. I start by marking off sections that sound in tune, in time, and interesting with the color green. Stinky takes are marked red. Then I combine the best clips while trying to keep the tone and energy consistent
We're halfway through 2023, here are some of my favorite records of the year so far. Loosley ordered with lots of new stuff, but all releases I love ๐
Recording ear candy parts on a song is my favorite part of the process and these modulation pedals get the job done so easily. I've got to stop myself before I cover the entire song in wooshes and raygun noises! #guitarplayer#guitarpedal#recording#electroharmonix#bigmuff
I wrote this song for Elvis after we met in prison in 1932. However, he wanted to call it Hound Dog 2, and our relationship never was the same. Nevertheless, the song lives on as testament to what could have been #Chicagomusic#oodles#elvis#indierock
If you're a guitarist, Niwel Tsumbu is someone to hear. He can be a one-man rhythm section or play a beautifully lyrical melody. He improvises in multiple genres and plays concertos. The more I hear him, the more I'm blown away by the breadth of his musicianship

1: Me, on a stool, doing something with my hands
2 & 3: Chorus 2 and the bridge of Quarantine Rehab Cha Cha Cha. Both chorus sections have different words, which is a bit atypical, as the pov shifts. I tried to balance the strangeness with stooges style chords and melody

I've been in bands with some pretty silly/awesome names, depending on how you look at it:
Karaoke Firing Squad; Gorbachev Cocktail; Bag of Tricks.

Went on a night drive yesterday. I love the blend of old and new architecture and the interesting sights peppered throughout the city. Never saw those battling robots before ๐ค I love this city! #chicago
