Physically ground and centre yourself for a few minutes every day. This will calm and clear your mind, and help you access the confidence and clarity you need. Listen to my grounding exercise here. https://t.co/yCGauSHY57
Self-sabotage is a curious thing: have you ever been ‘too busy’ to prepare
for a meeting even though you knew key stakeholders were present,
choosing to prioritise something less important?
If the relationship with your boss is not open and trusting, find one or two
good peers who you can talk to. You need trusted confidantes so you know
you are not alone.
I am bringing to a close a one-to-one coaching programme for 4 emerging leaders in the property industry. Investing in their continuing success was important to the company.
It has been great to review progress on the goals we agreed 10 months ago.
Lightbulb moments for my clients often come when we focus on the question of identity: not on what they need to do in terms of skills and competencies, but who they need to be. Once this changes, everything changes.
I frequently advise clients seeking promotion to starting thinking and doing
as though you have the role now – step up and be it now. How would you
respond to a challenge if you were ‘the FD or CEO now? What kind of
questions would you ask at meetings?
Taking action however small or ‘imperfect’ fuels motivation. It was good to see the difference with a client this week who was stuck and is now on a roll just because she did something at that moment when she doubted herself.
So take the risk to step outside of your comfort zone
#Leadership is how you energise people towards a #vision – don’t’ foget to refuel your tank.
Simple daily practices that build mental, physical and emotional fitness are so important so that you can be your best self , and continue energising people towards a #vision.
I recommend clients keep a ‘testimonials folder’ – positive and affirming
comments from their clients and colleagues. A quick referral to this folder
gives you a boost you need at critical moments.
A memorable quote from the new SNP leader in his speech was
“To my girls ... this job will at times be all-consuming, but know that there is no job more important in my life than being your dad. You will always, always come first”.
A simple heartfelt message.
The power of pause.
Sometimes we just need to pause, reflect and observe things from a different angle and we can see the advantages of change and the benefits it brings.

#Empathy is the new key management skill
There is an interesting article by Harvard Business School which reflects how empathy is a critical skill for success as managers in today's new world. https://t.co/ptRwOEjaD8

I was happy to receive an email yesterday from a client in property that I worked with 2 years ago during a period of growth and we put together a 5 year plan with key actions and milestones.
He wrote to say they had reached their projected revenue for year 5 in year 2!
I have always been an advocate for using nature and being outside. Walk and talk coaching where the physical movement of moving forward and looking ahead seems congruent with creative thought about your future.

Much of my work with leaders is about influence. Many of them are in new positions where they need to make an impact and gain buy-in to change.
I like this TED talk about the important combination of storytelling and data to engage people.

The definition of success is so personal for everyone. In a closing session with a leader last week we measured progress. They were happy with the career goals they had achieved however what satisfied them the most was when we re-measured how much they were living their values.
With Spring officially here this week, I thought I would share an article I wrote this time last year with tips on how to ‘spring clean’ your business, team and yourself.
