Yahoo Boys Are Geniuses Who Need Redirection, Not Condemnation — Peter Obi Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that some Nigerian internet fra¥dsters, popularly known as “Yahoo boys”, possess exceptional creativity that can be harnessed for national growth. “Some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation. Their creativity and courage, if properly guided, can drive innovation and national development,” Obi said on Saturday in Onitsha, Anambra State, at the Golden Health Conference themed “Money Beyond Wealth.” Obi, who returned early from a UK trip to attend the event, said it was important because it addressed “a vice that has eroded our values — the greed for material possessions.” He stressed that Nigeria cannot achieve greatness while celebrating corr+ption and rewarding dishonesty. “Money is necessary, but it is only a small part of real wealth,” he noted. “True wealth is built on integrity, character, and purpose. It uplifts society, promotes education, reduces poverty, and creates opportunities for others.” The former Anambra governor warned that the reckless pursuit of wealth has damaged Nigeria’s moral fabric. “Leadership must lead by example, for a nation that rewards dishonesty cannot build integrity,” he said. Obi urged Nigerian youths to rediscover the dignity of labour, emphasising that nations are built “not by miracles but by men and women who think, work, and build.” He also called for justice and fairness in governance, saying development requires collective effort, not ethnic or religious bias. “No religion or tribe buys bread cheaper than another. Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources; what we lack is the will to do what is right,” he said. Obi thanked Bishop Owen Nwokolo of the Diocese on the Niger and commended the organisers for promoting discipline and value-based leadership among young Nigerians.

About two years ago, the former PRO of the Nigerian Police Force tweeted that “no matter where you are in the world, the Nigerian police can track and arrest you within 24 hours.” (The tweet is still on his page till today.) Just a few days ago, those cultist boys who initiated a 5-year-old child were arrested in less than 24 hours after their video went viral. When Shola, the guy who ran a parody account of former President Jonathan, was wanted, he was tracked from Abuja, got arrested in Ogbomosho, and jailed. Another man insulted the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, on Twitter, he called her f@t, he was tracked, arrested, and jailed, all under 48 hours when his tweet went viral. A TikTok content creator insulted the current Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun, and he too was arrested and jailed within 24 hours after the video went viral. These are few among many, and I can tell you for sure, if/when Nigeria police decided to do their work, no institution can track like they do, they’d track you to places where there is no internet or even mobile network. But the same police and security agencies still haven’t tracked the kidnappers who have been posting multiple videos of this lady for weeks now. They still can’t arrest the bandits granting press conferences on camera in Kaduna and Katsina. I pray for you reading this: May God protect you and your loved ones, and may you never become a victim of Nigeria. Because in truth, to those in power, we are nothing. And that’s why it truly breaks my heart when I see Nigerians insulting and fighting each other online over politicians, the same politicians who eat, laugh, and dine together in Abuja, regardless of party or tribe.
