Builderโs Pick this week: e2e ๐
An open-source end-to-end testing framework for web and mobile apps.
Instead of scripting every interaction manually, you can describe the goal in natural language and let an agent drive the app, while still keeping normal locators and assertions for the parts you actually want to verify. It also records successful agent actions so later runs can replay them without calling the model every time. GitHub
What makes it interesting is the balance between AI flexibility and deterministic testing: use the agent for messy user interaction, then use regular assertions to decide whether the test actually passed.
It supports web plus iOS / Android, and the project is Apache-2.0 licensed and actively maintained. GitHub

Machine-Checked Devcon Week, an online hackathon, 2 to 7 November.
The work: you implement pieces of Ethereum's networking layer in Lean 4 and prove properties of what you build. You pick real protocol tasks from the leanp2p repo. Every proof is checked by Lean's kernel.
Any level counts, and participation is free. Participation is curated, so your work gets real attention. You should be comfortable writing code.
Prizes: a $1,000 prize pool, more being confirmed. Code closes 7 November 23:59 UTC, participant videos by 15 November 23:59 UTC, results by 30 November.
Apply by 1 November. Join the Discord, acceptances are announced there: https://t.co/Eg6WSwj3gp

A few things stood out this week:
๐ฉ Demand for AI compute is still enormous.
๐ฉ Chinese AI companies are getting a clearer path to expand overseas.
๐ฉ The market is becoming less willing to reward AI hype without results.
Thatโs it for this week.
Follow @OpenBuildxyz for more updates on Chinaโs AI and innovation ecosystem.
See you next Monday.

What did you miss in Chinaโs AI last week?
ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent placed huge new Nvidia chip orders, DeepSeek and MiniMax cleared Chinaโs new overseas AI registration process, and the AI stock boom finally hit a major correction.
Time for last weekโs recap ๐

Chinaโs AI stock boom also hit a reality check.
The STAR50 index, which includes many AI and semiconductor companies, has fallen around 40% in less than four months, wiping roughly $480 billion from market value.
The technology story has not disappeared.
But investors are starting to ask harder questions about valuation, demand and how quickly AI spending turns into real revenue.
Builderโs Pick this week: Ponytail ๐
An open-source skill built around a very simple idea:
the best code might be the code your AI agent never writes.
Instead of letting coding agents over-engineer every task, Ponytail pushes them to reuse what already exists, keep changes small, and only add complexity when itโs actually needed.
It also adds review and audit workflows for bugs, security, tests, performance, and unnecessary code.
Basically: give your AI agent the instincts of that senior dev who looks at 200 lines of code and asks, โWhy?โ

A few things stood out this week:
๐ฉ Chinese models are moving deeper into mainstream consumer products.
๐ฉ Frontier AI safety is becoming a real organizational function inside Chinese labs.ใ
๐ฉ China is starting to treat advanced AI as a strategic technology worth controlling, not just exporting.
Thatโs it for this week.

What did you miss in Chinaโs AI last week?
Apple Intelligence finally cleared a major hurdle in China, ByteDance created a dedicated frontier AI safety team, and Beijing proposed tighter controls on the export of advanced AI technologies.
Time for last weekโs recap ๐
4/5
China also proposed export controls covering 23 AI technologies, including advanced models, agents and computing clusters.
The draft rules focus on transfers of sensitive underlying technology, while normal access through APIs, apps, websites and SaaS would generally remain possible. Publicly available open-source technology would also largely stay outside the restrictions.
China spent years trying to catch up in frontier AI.
Now it is also thinking about which parts of that technology it wants to keep closer to home.
The next developer interface may be no interface at all.
For years, developers learned how to operate software: editors, terminals, dashboards, shortcuts, tabs everywhere.
Now that relationship is starting to flip. Instead of learning where every button lives, you increasingly just describe what you want done and let the system figure out which tools to use. GitHub recently called this shift โambient intelligenceโ โ moving from operating tools to expressing intent. The GitHub Blog
๐ฉ1. The interface is moving into the background.
You may not need to open five tools if an agent can read the repo, run commands, inspect failures, and move between them for you. The tools are still there; you just interact with them less directly.
2๐ฉ. Knowing what you want becomes more important.
When clicking and typing become cheaper, vague thinking becomes more expensive. โMake this betterโ still leaves a lot of room for the system to make the wrong decision.
๐ฉ3. Developers may spend less time operating software.
That doesnโt necessarily mean less technical work. It could mean more time defining constraints, checking outcomes, and deciding what should happen next.
We spent decades designing better interfaces for developers.
The funny part is that AI may make some of those interfaces disappear.
