Seizing Data Center Heat Reuse Opportunities: OCP Guidelines for Local Authorities
As data centers expand throughout the world, large amounts of electricity to power and cool their servers will continue to be needed. Almost all the energy entering a data center converts into a byproduct in the form of excess heat, which is often released into the atmosphere by evaporating water in cooling towers without further use. Many local authorities encourage the reuse of heat data centers produce. Reusing data center heat can lower energy costs, cut carbon emissions, and often reduce water use for the community and local businesses, while also benefiting data centers from the impacts on their energy consumption, permitting, public and client perception
The Heat Reuse Subproject has provided preliminary guidelines and is planning to deliver further guidance on the topic discussed in this article.

OCP is excited to announce our upcoming panel at Fiber Connect 2026's AI and Emerging Technology Infrastructure Summit on Wednesday, May 20!
Panel Title: Interconnect Insights on the Photonics Enabling AI Factory Scale and the Multi-Data Center Future
Join our expert panel for this discussion:
-Moderator: James Kelly, VP Market Intelligence & Innovation, OCP
-Sherwin Cabatic, President and CEO, NTT Devices America
-Jonmichael Hands, CEO, FarmGPU
-Stephen Manley, Sr Principal Network Engineer, Oracle Cloud
-David Hjerpe, National Account Manager, Databank
The race to exascale AI is fundamentally shifting how AI factory building blocks are designed and operated. This OCP-led panel will discuss how networking and photonics are becoming critical enablers for data movement, focusing on three key areas: scale-up within an AI pod, scale-out across the AI factory floor, and scale-across between AI data center campuses and metros. One practical reality we'll be discussing is that power density isn't the only headline-grabber: for data centers, fiber count and fiber pathway capacity per rack are so demanding that the cable plant is now essentially the new floor-loading, catching many colo designs flat-footed.
We look forward to seeing you at Fiber Connect!

📢 Evolving with Purpose: Streamlining OCP Product Recognition
We're simplifying how product recognition works across the OCP Community — and we want to hear from you.
Over the coming weeks, the Open Compute Project Solution Provider Program will transition to a single product recognition designation: OCP Accepted™.
What this means:
· The OCP Inspired™ logo will be retired by July 31, 2026
· Its requirements will be folded into an updated OCP Accepted™ framework
· OCP Accepted™ becomes the single, unified signal of alignment with OCP principles
Why the change? As the OCP ecosystem has grown, we've heard consistent feedback that the distinction between designations can be unclear. This evolution is designed to reduce confusion, streamline the recognition process, and deliver a clearer signal to the market.
Products recognized under the updated OCP Accepted™ framework must demonstrate alignment with approved OCP Contributions, adhere to key OCP Tenets, and complete the OCP review and certification process.
A 30-day community feedback period begins today. We're committed to making this transition thoughtfully and collaboratively.
