Check out this visitor to the pond in Lorimer today. I’ve been walking here multiple times a week for almost 20 years and this is a first. Unfortunately, mute swans are invasive species, so hopefully this is just a quick pit stop!
Upcoming vine day! Join us Saturday, 3/9/24, from 9-12 in our Lorimer Preserve. Volunteers will meet @ the home of Trish & Stuart Gutsche @ 1812 Hawkweed Way, in the Summerhill neighborhood to allow us to access the northeastern area of the preserve. Refreshments will be served.
View from Lorimer Preserve this morning. It was snowing so hard that the Canadian geese on the pond were snow-covered. Also snowing so hard it was impossible to get a good shot of them. ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
PSA
To the “friend” of Lorimer who’s doing this: as the sign clearly states, Lorimer is a nature preserve. It is not a dump.
Backstory: someone has been throwing cans trailside in the bushes all over the preserve. They weren’t there last spring.
What is wrong with people?
After recent rains and draining of the small pond, the big pond in Lorimer Preserve is refilling nicely. It didn’t take long for the Canada geese and mallard ducks to find it!
Removal of the small pond in Lorimer is underway ! For your safety, please observe the posted trail closures while work takes place over the next few weeks.
Please join us on October 7th at 9am in Valley Creek Preserve to plant the saplings that will restore a diverse native woodland. All welcome!

A snapping 🐢’s strike distance can be 2/3 the length of its shell! They’re found on land & in water. ✅ out this monster in Valley Creek. Don’t let your pup find out how severe a bite can be; keep him safe by keeping him on a leash. Oh, & those are our rules anyhow!
Final vine day of the season is Saturday, 9-12! Meet at the Lorimer gatehouse on LeBoutillier Rd (for Google maps, use 1509 LeBoutillier Rd). We've only been able to have 2 vine days this year, so we could really use your help! Hope to see you there!
Vine Days are back! We will hold 3 vine days this year, on the 2nd Sat of Feb, Mar, Apr, from 9-12. All 3 will take place in our Lorimer Preserve. Get outside and see some new faces! Please meet us Sat 2/14 at 9 AM in the N Valley Forge Rd parking lot. https://t.co/zudCcrgJBy

C'mon, you know we're all looking for excuses to spend time outside these days - what better way?
