You will absolutely own a house and a cat and anything you want, really, while being a translator!
The pro tip is removing those who say otherwise from your timeline, it'll help speed things up 😉
Ok, so you read about #gameloc basics and now you are wondering how to get started...
The great @itranslategames addressed this question in his article *How do you break into video game localization?*
Enjoy!

If you're #gamedev & don't credit translators cause "the agency didn't give names", I'm sorry but no. You're the client, you make the rules.
Practice what you preach on Twitter & work with folks who credit their workers (my group @FromTvoid does so, but we're not alone).
Meanwhile translators are routinely left out because, and I quote: “Our agency didn’t give us the names”
Perhaps #gamedev folks should really start putting their money where their mouths are and work with loc companies that champion their translators instead of hiding them? 🤔
This article was written in 2018. I can confirm that in 2021 the nature has healed and the average translation rate for freelance translators working in game localization is between $0.10 and $0.15. Please retweet, the Internet needs to know the truth! #gamedev#indiedev
Game developers: Crunch is bad, let’s avoid it at all costs.
Also game developers: We have 100k words to translate, that took us months to write. Can you translate it into 10 languages in like a week? Is that enough time?
#Localization questions:
Will the #gaming studios working with companies like MoGί/TransP℮rfect ever evaluate who they work with?
Will pundits like @jasonschreier or @JimSterling ever look into the exploitative practices of the #l10n industry?
Or are we just dirt?
Wikipedia vs. video games is not a fair comparison, in my humble opinion. The latter is a commercial product - if you you fail at localization it will hurt your sales and reputation. I’ve seen it happened first hand: users are very quick to drop those negative reviews, you know.
I know it sucks, but sometimes it’s better to not give anything at all. Developers should never feel pressured to localize their game. What they can do is learn and use that knowledge to have better planning and localization budget with their next project. 😉
This tweet right here, officer. 🚔👮♀️
It’s like saying that anyone who has 2 hands can be a pianist or anyone who can fry an egg can be a chef. But we all know it’s simply not the case, so why is localization any different?
Hey friends!
To celebrate this weekend let's play a Twitter game and share the love for some #indiegames
Rules: Drop 3 links to 3 games you want everyone to Wishlist and tag 3 of your friends to do the same.
Let's call it #ThreeGamesToWishlist so it'd be easier to track :)
I just discovered this cute little game called Letters @LettersTheGame. It’s very charming and adorable but seeing GIFs like this is literally every game translator’s nightmare fuel 😱
Localizing it will be quite a challenge in some languages.
My fellow video game translators gonna love this! Check out how the UI of Islanders by @_grizzlygames adapts to the length of the text when you switch the language!
It's pure magic! Can we get more #indiedev and #gamedev folks to adopt this, please?

Me trying to find previous translations in 50 tabs of Excel spreadsheet when working on a new MOBA game that was localized by someone else and has no translation memory.
This is heart-breaking! Talented Canadian devs working on an exciting project @RecombobulatorG need your help recovering after a terrible flood. Please help if you can and spread the word.

It was fun helping Joe translate @SongofIron's Steam page into Russian. Be sure to check out this great upcoming game from a solo developer and don't forget to wishlist!

It was lovely helping David translate his Steam page for the upcoming game The Companion! You don't want to miss this one! It's absolutely breathtaking and a ton of hard work went into making it a reality.
Please, add it to your Wishlist here: https://t.co/lTWfIyYewE #indiedev
Knowing that the game I helped localize made it into 10 Most Downloaded Games of 2020 with 138 MILLION downloads is surreal.
The only that is more surreal is knowing that it barely had 2000 downloads prior to localization. I guess #LocalizationMatters? 😉
