The student you are in 4th grade will disproportionately dictate high school admissions, right @watlington_sr@PHLschoolboard ?
Talk about not letting kids out of a box you put them into early…
Don’t recall any “urgency” from Philly Mag in reopening #phled schools during COVID. Don’t hear any urgency coming from them in terms of how you remedy the damage caused. Don’t hear any urgency of a review to ensure the same mistakes are never repeated.
*except if we want to keep schools (holla @rweingarten & Philly leadership) in which case we dramatize & spin up fear, ignore data, slow walk reopening by pretending that’s what is “best” (even though rich kids were in school)…and screw over another generation of poor kids.
Democrats at all levels of government ensured that we got back on the road fast after tragedy struck. Can we muster that same energy for our public schools and other big, urgent city issues?

Aka the public school educational complex (hi @rweingarten) completely effed up education during COVID and would prefer to never speak of it.
Instead “the complex” pivots and says that it’s too damaging to kids to talk about the damage done.

The @nytimes needs to be put out its misery. reality is the paper supported deeply regressive policies touted by “progressives”
You want to build trust that the ppr is liberal & cares about equity? Start w/ writing a reflection on what you got wrong in COVID-era education.
The @nytimes needs to be put out of its misery. You supported policies that damaged disadvantaged kids w/o any real benefit. You weren’t liberal & supported regressive policies touted by progressives.
Reflect, write opinions based on what you should’ve done if you were liberal.
There are clearly a group of people who feel schools must be closed for any reason.
@PHLschoolboard@watlington_sr - maybe grades shouldn’t close 7 days before school ends, it’s true there is ~0 teaching — no effort being made to reach kids who are struggling.
@nolpost@juliblingblong There have been over 20 shooting deaths of school aged kids this year alone. Reality is there is risk everywhere.
Deciding that going to school is somehow the only unacceptable risk has caused what could be a lifetime of damages in learning loss to a generation of students.
@nolpost@juliblingblong The recommendation for high risk is to stay indoors - which is what’s happening at school.
Are you saying that every kid in Philly has access to in home air conditioning? that going to school poses an unacceptable risk to them? But your Amazon delivery person is perfectly safe?
@PhillyParent@alexanderrusso Throwing more money at a situation where your root causes are now structural - you’ve told people in school education is the least important thing out there and folks have internalized it…$ won’t fix that problem (unless the $ is to pay kids to go to school)
…instead vote for the person who went into the Union League to take a check from millionaires? @HelenGymPHL
Or you can vote for any of the other candidates - none of them did that.
Jeff Yass personally dropped over $1,000,000 into the Philly mayoral race to fund false advertisements and voter suppression tactics against @HelenGymPHL . Don't let the billionaire class win. Polls close at 8pm so get out and vote!
He should know…he lives in LA, joining the crowd of Very Important People Who Are Telling Philly Who They Should Vote For….
They’ll remain safely ensconced elsewhere and won’t live with the resultant impacts.
I don't think I have ever seen a crowd like this for a mayoral candidate. But this is what happens when you have a candidate like @HelenGymPHL who will fight for working-class families & defend our rights. If you're in Philadelphia, vote for Helen. She is THE candidate.
@bradlander@CorrigaJ@HelenGymPHL It’s incredible, the number of people who don’t live in Philly who are coming to Philly to tell us who to vote for.
She hasn’t been as well endorsed by local folks who at least live here - they are choosing her other candidates.
Can you tell the difference between @RebeccaRhynhart and @HelenGymPHL ? RR does not have someone holding an umbrella for her. What does that tell you about their character?
Spend two years telling kids & families schools aren’t safe enough( still happening!) that remote ed was good enough…
Add in terrible educational quality (which is getting worse)
Kids won’t go to school. Families who can leave will. Not a surprise at all.
@HangleyJr “A source” meaning someone I know who told me what I want to hear.
And those who know Ed have done a what? Great job for Philly Ed?
Helen Gym doesn’t have a plan. She’s just telling people she’ll magically get money and fix everything.
@Priscilla__Lo@NikilSaval@HelenGymPHL Really this is all about @NikilSaval. If you disagree with him your obviously evil and/or uninformed. Because we should ALL just do as he says.
That’s democracy, right?
