Don’t recall any “urgency” from Philly Mag in reopening #phled schools during COVID. Don’t hear any urgency coming from them in terms of how you remedy the damage caused. Don’t hear any urgency of a review to ensure the same mistakes are never repeated.

*except if we want to keep schools (holla @rweingarten & Philly leadership) in which case we dramatize & spin up fear, ignore data, slow walk reopening by pretending that’s what is “best” (even though rich kids were in school)…and screw over another generation of poor kids.

Instead “the complex” pivots and says that it’s too damaging to kids to talk about the damage done.

You want to build trust that the ppr is liberal & cares about equity? Start w/ writing a reflection on what you got wrong in COVID-era education.

The @nytimes needs to be put out of its misery. You supported policies that damaged disadvantaged kids w/o any real benefit. You weren’t liberal & supported regressive policies touted by progressives.

Reflect, write opinions based on what you should’ve done if you were liberal.

There are clearly a group of people who feel schools must be closed for any reason.

@PHLschoolboard @watlington_sr - maybe grades shouldn’t close 7 days before school ends, it’s true there is ~0 teaching — no effort being made to reach kids who are struggling.

@nolpost @juliblingblong There have been over 20 shooting deaths of school aged kids this year alone. Reality is there is risk everywhere.

Deciding that going to school is somehow the only unacceptable risk has caused what could be a lifetime of damages in learning loss to a generation of students.

Are you saying that every kid in Philly has access to in home air conditioning? that going to school poses an unacceptable risk to them? But your Amazon delivery person is perfectly safe?

@PhillyParent @alexanderrusso Throwing more money at a situation where your root causes are now structural - you’ve told people in school education is the least important thing out there and folks have internalized it…$ won’t fix that problem (unless the $ is to pay kids to go to school)

I don't think I have ever seen a crowd like this for a mayoral candidate. But this is what happens when you have a candidate like @HelenGymPHL who will fight for working-class families & defend our rights. If you're in Philadelphia, vote for Helen. She is THE candidate.

@bradlander @CorrigaJ @HelenGymPHL It’s incredible, the number of people who don’t live in Philly who are coming to Philly to tell us who to vote for.

She hasn’t been as well endorsed by local folks who at least live here - they are choosing her other candidates.

Spend two years telling kids & families schools aren’t safe enough( still happening!) that remote ed was good enough…

Add in terrible educational quality (which is getting worse)

Kids won’t go to school. Families who can leave will. Not a surprise at all.
