Open Waters is dedicated to enhancing career opportunities in Louisiana's maritime industry. Recently, our board members, Captains E. Michael Bopp, and Louis M. "Toby" Wattigney Jr., delivered keynote remarks at a ULMA reception as partners of the University of Louisiana System.

Open Waters joined We Work The Waterways at Port of South Louisiana! Engaging local high school students, we highlighted maritime careers, shared success stories, and introduced our Summer Internship Program. Special thanks to State Rep Sylvia Taylor for inspiring the students.

Open Waters and @WeWorkWaterways dedicated two days in Baton Rouge this week @LASM, with industry partners to engage in educational sessions aimed at enlightening local high school students about the diverse career opportunities awaiting them on the Mississippi River.

The Open Waters team had a fantastic time at Vue Orleans last week, teaming up with our partners @portnola, @nunezcc, and St. Bernard Ecotourism to educate students from St. Bernard Middle School about exciting career opportunities in the Maritime industry.

Yesterday Open Waters had the privilege of joining an educational event hosted by our partner @RiverWorksD at @PortNOLA. We set out to inspire and educate middle and high school students about the exciting career opportunities awaiting them in the maritime industry. #OpenWaters

From boarding ocean-going vessels to navigating the challenges of night navigation at Pilottown, the Open Waters interns working with Crescent River Port Pilots Association have witnessed the dedication of the industry's pros––unveiling a world of insights and experience!

Yesterday, the NOBRA interns were able to hone their skills and master essential docking commands. Next up, the incredible MPI – the ultimate riverboat simulator, learning to virtually navigate open waters. With VR headsets, the interns virtually navigated the Mississippi River.

This year, Open Waters continues to inspire young minds with immersive internships in the maritime sector. Today, our partners at New Orleans - Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association gathered with their cohort of summer interns for the first day of orientation.
