Reflecting the passionate G&S culture that has flourished across Britain and much of the former British Commonwealth for over a century, @OperaAustralia’s Gilbert & Sullivan: A Musical Celebration made an entertaining tribute to the duo. My thoughts:

There’s that Moshinsky-Traviata drop curtain being used again! Not sure why when G&S were centre of attention in @OperaAustralia’s dedicated musical celebration to the enduring duo. Nevertheless, lots of wonderful performances with, hmm, lots of showbiz direction.
“Never mind the why and wherefore”; I’ll be in my element for the next couple of hours when @OperaAustralia’s Gilbert & Sullivan: A Musical Celebration gets underway here @cityofmelbourne’s swanky Regent Theatre.
Celebrating 70 years of bringing opera to the people, elegance, expertise, experience and soaring entertainment were the order of the evening for @OperaAustralia’s 70th Anniversary Gala on Sunday. My thoughts @arts_review: https://t.co/iHesQg2pQl
The ensemble nature of the company was showcased splendidly this evening in @OperaAustralia’s 70th Anniversary Gala in a program catering generously for a raft of exceptional talent without resorting to the usual overdone opera highlights. And it looked pretty classy all the way!
Happy 70th Anniversary @OperaAustralia! To celebrate, I’m absolutely pleased to attend your gala event @cityofmelbourne’s Regent Theatre. Let the art of opera inspire!
“All things in moderation” comes to mind as @VictorianOpera once again warmly revives composer Calvin Bowman and librettist Anna Goldsworthy’s version of Norman Lindsay’s tale — a compact 70-minute romp that coasts along, plump with melodic pleasure. https://t.co/NUKZ3AY4Ys
Norman Lindsay’s charming, Aussie tug-of-war bush adventure is brought to spirited life in @VictorianOpera’s compact 70-minute work that coasts along, plump with melodic pleasure. The Magic Pudding: The Opera is entertaining sustenance for the whole family.
Great to see another comeback for @VictorianOpera’s production of composer Calvin Bowman and librettist Anna Goldsworthy’s The Magic Pudding: The Opera. Some sweet and savoury entertainment ahead here at The Round, Nunawading.
Newcomers to and lovers of Verdi’s La Traviata should find many aspects of dir. Sarah Giles’ new production for @OperaAustralia, its individual performances and musical quality enough to arouse emotion and bask in its artistry. My thoughts @arts_review: https://t.co/Kv6aCMXspX
Off to Moss Vale, NSW for a 70th Birthday — and first time to take the cutting-edge-sounding XPT. It’s not! No charging capability or wi-fi either for the next 9hr30min journey.
Opening tonight, a new @OperaAustralia La Traviata that might not achieve the 30 year life of its predecessor but has much to offer — a handsome-looking production from dir. Sarah Giles that seems to purposefully confuses time, combining poetic moments of Violetta’s imaginings.
Back in @CityofAdelaide and Her Majesty’s Theatre for the opening night of @stateoperaofsa’s new Neil Armfield directed production of Rossini’s Cinderella. Hopefully back at my accommodation before the clock strikes midnight.
Already homeward bound after a quick trip to @CityofAdelaide with @Qantas QF674 ADL-MEL coming up. I’ll have to start calling these trips FIFOFOs — fly in, fly out for opera!
