Cleaner beaches are essential for nesting mothers and hatchlings to survive, as it is easy for sea turtles to become entangled or to ingest.

Another successful #beach #cleanup by our amazing #crew! One of #seaturtles biggest obstacles is pollution. This can include plastic bags, fishing lines, netting, plastic rings from cans, rope, etc.

Last night, our crew successfully recovered the fourth nest of the season! A mother Olive Ridley came ashore and laid 99 eggs, which were safely recovered and moved to the hatchery where they will incubate for the next two months.

The Hawksbill season is slowly coming to an end and we only have a few more weeks of patrol left.

Our team is relentlessly patrolling the beaches every night in search of mother #turtles laying her clutch of eggs.

Our crew's top priority is ensuring these baby turtles return safely to the ocean. We are just a few short weeks away from the first hatchlings of the season! As we countdown to their due date we will begin hourly shifts, checking for movement within the nest.

Part of this process involves daily checks on the nests, removal of weeds and grass within the hatchery, monitoring the temperature, and other household chores keeping the hatchery in prime condition.

A large part of our day to day is maintaining the hatchery. During our nightly patrols, we relocate nests to this safe location where the eggs can incubate until they are ready to hatch.

With the turtle numbers so low this season, each turtle we find feels especially special. These incredible animals have the world against them from the moment their eggs are laid, we are happy to give them a better chance at survival.

Around 3:15am on Friday morning, our crew spotted a female hawksbill on the shoreline. This beautiful momma laid 148 eggs before gracefully returning to the sea. This was our third sea turtle save this season.
