POPCRU CALLS FOR URGENT RELOCATION OF RUSTENBURG MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POPCRU North West is calling for the temporary relocation of the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court amid serious safety and security concerns linked to ongoing renovations.
Sections of the court’s roof have been removed, and adequate ablution facilities are unavailable. As a result, people awaiting court appearances are reportedly being kept in police vehicles for extended periods and escorted to nearby public facilities close to a busy taxi rank.
POPCRU warns that these arrangements expose police officers, detainees and members of the public to serious risks, including attacks and attempted escapes.
The union says an individual reportedly escaped from custody on Friday, 23 October 2026, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
POPCRU has urged the Departments of Justice and Public Works, SAPS and other stakeholders to identify a suitable temporary venue with proper holding cells, ablution facilities and adequate security.
The union also wants an immediate review of security arrangements and staffing levels, warning that officers cannot be expected to risk their lives because of inadequate infrastructure and planning.
POPCRU says workers’ safety is non-negotiable and court renovations must not compromise the administration of justice.
709 DAYS LATER: WHERE IS JERRY BOSHOGA? WHY IS THERE STILL NO BREAKTHROUGH?
It has been 709 days since Pretoria businessman and farmer Jerry Boshoga was kidnapped in Centurion. He disappeared on 18 November 2024 after attending a business meeting at a KFC outlet in, Rooihuiskraal, Centurion.
Since that day, his family has been left desperately searching for answers. His whereabouts remain unknown.
How is it possible that, nearly two years later, there is still no confirmed answer about what happened to Jerry Boshoga?
This is not an ordinary missing-person case. It is a high-profile kidnapping that has attracted national attention and raised disturbing questions about organised crime, ransom demands and the alleged involvement of people linked to criminal networks.
📍 WHAT WE KNOW
🔴 Jerry Boshoga was kidnapped on 18 November 2024 in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, after attending a business meeting.
🔴 He was last seen that day. His family subsequently received a message indicating that he had been kidnapped.
🔴 The kidnappers reportedly made ransom demands, initially reported at R60-million, before the amount was reduced to R25-
million and eventually R10-million.
🔴 Disturbing videos purportedly showing Boshoga being tortured circulated after his kidnapping, adding to the family’s anguish.
🔴 The case has since featured in testimony and allegations involving individuals linked to suspected criminal networks, including Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
🔴 Police have previously confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that INTERPOL has been brought in to assist with cross-border investigations.
BUT WHERE IS THE BREAKTHROUGH?
Nearly two years have passed. What has the investigation established? Have all possible leads been followed? Have investigators identified everyone who may have planned, facilitated or carried out the kidnapping? What has been established about the people allegedly involved, the ransom demands and the locations where Jerry may have been held?
These are legitimate questions that deserve clear answers.
If investigators have made progress, the public needs to understand what can be disclosed without jeopardising the investigation. If there are obstacles, those responsible for the case must explain what is being done to overcome them.
SAPS has previously indicated that the investigation is sensitive and ongoing. But sensitivity cannot mean that questions are never asked. Nor should the passage of time allow this case to fade from public attention.
THE FAMILY DESERVES ANSWERS. JERRY DESERVES TO BE FOUND.
Behind the headlines is a family living with unimaginable uncertainty. His mother, wife, children and loved ones have been forced to endure the pain of not knowing what happened to him.
Every day without answers is another day of anguish.
This case also raises wider concerns about the ability of organised kidnapping syndicates to operate, make ransom demands and seemingly leave families without closure. If criminal networks are involved, the investigation must establish who is responsible and ensure that anyone implicated is held accountable through the courts.
The public deserves to know whether the necessary resources, intelligence and investigative expertise are being deployed to solve this case.
SAPS leadership must ensure that every credible lead is pursued, that cooperation between investigative units and international law enforcement is effective, and that the family receives meaningful updates.
South Africans must not forget this case. Anyone with credible information that could assist investigators should come forward and contact the police.
We need answers. We need accountability. And we need the truth about what happened to Jerry Boshoga.

TSHWANE IMPLEMENTS OVERNIGHT WATER RESTRICTIONS AS SUPPLY NETWORK COMES UNDER PRESSURE
The City of Tshwane has introduced temporary overnight water restrictions affecting several reservoirs and communities across Pretoria, Centurion, Akasia and Ga-Rankuwa as authorities attempt to stabilise the water supply network amid exceptionally high consumption.
The intervention began at 18:00 on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, and will remain in place until 06:00 on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
The City says selected reservoirs will have their water supply reduced or temporarily shut off to relieve pressure on upstream systems. Although the affected reservoirs currently have adequate water, exceptionally high consumption in their supply areas is placing significant strain on the broader network.
🔴 AREAS AFFECTED
The restrictions affect the following reservoir supply areas:
• Akasia: Amandasig, Rosslyn, The Orchards, Karen Park, Clarina, Dorandia, Florauna, Heatherview, Theresapark, Nina Park and surrounding areas.
• Bakenkop: Eldoraigne, Clubview, Wierdapark, Hennopspark, Rooihuiskraal Noord, Celtisdal, Lyttelton and surrounding areas.
• Erasmia: Erasmia, Christoburg, Sunderland Ridge and surrounding areas.
• Erasmusrand: Erasmusrand, Waterkloof, Waterkloof Ridge and Erasmuskloof.
• Ga-Rankuwa West and Industrial: Ga-Rankuwa, Ga-Rankuwa Industrial, Medunsa and surrounding areas.
• Iscor: Kwaggasrand, Philip Nel Park, Pretoria Industrial, Proclamation Hill and West Park.
• Lynnwood: Lynnwood, Lynnwood Manor, Menlo Park, Menlyn, Garsfontein, Koedoespoort and surrounding areas.
• Meintjieskop: Arcadia, Bryntirion, Eastwood, Riviera, Villieria, Rietfontein, Prinshof and surrounding areas.
• Murrayfield: Murrayfield, Meyerspark, La Montagne, Salieshoek and surrounding areas.
• Parkmore LL: Faerie Glen, Constantia Park, Lynnwood Glen, Lynnwood Park, Newlands, Menlyn, Garsfontein and Waterkloof Glen.
• Rooihuiskraal: Rooihuiskraal, Olievenhoutbosch, Heuweloord, Kosmosdal, The Reeds, Monavoni and surrounding areas.
• The Reeds: The Reeds, Olievenhoutbosch and Rua Vista.
Residents in these areas may experience low water pressure or temporary water supply interruptions during the intervention.
🔴 WHY ARE THE RESTRICTIONS NECESSARY?
The City says reducing demand overnight should help balance the wider water network, stabilise Rand Water systems and improve the availability of water to communities experiencing shortages.
The intervention is also intended to support the Klapperkop system and help sustain improved levels in the Garsfontein systems, where reservoir levels remain critically low and unstable.
🔴 WHEN WILL WATER SUPPLY RETURN TO NORMAL?
The restrictions are scheduled to end at 06:00 on Thursday morning. However, the City has warned that water supply will be reopened gradually and that recovery times may differ across affected communities.
Residents should therefore not assume that water pressure will return to normal immediately at 06:00.
🔴 CALL TO RESIDENTS
The City is urging residents to use water strictly for essential needs during this period.
Residents are asked to avoid watering gardens, washing vehicles and filling swimming pools to help reservoirs recover and reduce pressure on the network.
The City has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation.

MEDIA STATEMENT
POSTPONEMENT OF HEARING IN THE FULL COURT PROCEEDINGS CONCERNING THE DETENTION OF PROSPECTIVE ASYLUM SEEKERS (Case number: 2026/220414)
The Gauteng Division of the High Court, Johannesburg, wishes to inform the public and the media that the hearing before a Full Court in the proceedings concerning the detention of prospective asylum seekers, previously scheduled for 29 October 2026, has been postponed and will now be heard from 16 to 18 November 2026.
The proceedings comprise 33 urgent applications referred by the Judge President of the Gauteng Division to a Full Court to determine important legal and constitutional questions concerning the detention of undocumented foreign nationals who express an intention to apply for asylum.
The referral followed differing judicial approaches regarding the effect of the Constitutional Court's judgment in Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town v Minister of Home Affairs and Others and was intended to promote legal certainty, uniformity of judicial practice, and the consistent administration of justice.
The postponement has become necessary due to the substantial expansion of the proceedings since they were enrolled. Five amici curiae and two intervening parties have been admitted. In addition, one of the applicants belatedly filed a Rule 16A notice raising constitutional issues, while several parties filed affidavits out of time, resulting in further affidavits and supplementary written submissions.
The matter, initially allocated a single hearing day, now requires three hearing days for its proper determination.
On 21 October 2026, one of the applicants filed a notice in terms of Rule 16A of the Uniform Rules of Court raising additional constitutional issues concerning the detention of persons who express an intention to seek asylum.
Rule 16A requires notice to be given of constitutional issues raised in litigation and affords interested persons an opportunity to seek admission as amici curiae.
To give effect to these objectives, and notwithstanding that five amici curiae have already been admitted, the Court has directed truncated time periods in terms of Rule 6(12) to enable any interested person or organisation wishing to participate as an amicus curiae in relation to the constitutional issues identified in the Rule 16A notice to do so.
Any person or organisation wishing to apply for admission as an amicus curiae pursuant to the Rule 16A notice must file its application for admission, together with its written submissions, by Friday, 6 November 2026.
Persons seeking access to the referral notice, the Rule 16A notice, or the digital court files may contact Mr Kwena Ramoroka, Secretary to Judge Lebogang Modiba, the Case Management Judge, at [email protected].
