Hotspot business is soon ending in Uganda. It was long coming since hotspot service providers aren't paying taxes. Telecommunications companies are the biggest tax payers in the country and any thing that hinders their income, government has to intervene. Goodbye hotspot business 🙌
The UCC is currently holding a meeting to find possible measures how to attack and erase all hotspots users and sellers around Uganda so that the people go back to the expensive internet service providers. Hotspot businesses had created offers of cheap internet and job opportunities to the citizens, we are in a country where our leaders sit down to find ways of making life harder and erase opportunities for the citizens but not planning for them.
The Federal Government of Nigeria Approves N12B For Islamic and Christian Pilgrimages To Mecca and Jerusalem …. But the same government can’t give its people constant electricity for even a full day 🤔
Dividends to non-resident shareholders: is the exemption yours to claim?
In Total Uganda Ltd v URA, the Court of Appeal held the taxpayer was not entitled to the claimed withholding-tax exemption on dividends paid to non-resident shareholders.
For cross-border dividends, check the recipient's residence, the domestic withholding tax, and any treaty rate or exemption.

Is income Uganda-source just because the payee is abroad? No, a non-resident recipient doesn't stop it being Ugandan-source.
In Intertek Testing Services International Ltd v URA, payments were made to non-resident inspection entities, and the dispute was whether they were Uganda-source income subject to withholding tax.
Principle: income can be Uganda-source even where the recipient is a non-resident.
