Israel has at least 700,000 illegal settlers living alongside 3.3 million Palestinians in areas that Palestinians have had claim to since 1967 for a future state.  These settlements are breaking international law.  Israel is violating human rights with unlawful detentions of Palestinians, most egregiously the case of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Aswan hospital in Gaza.  Dr Safiya has been held since December 2024 in the facility Rakefet, known for its horrific conditions.  The Dr. and 13 other Palestinians are being held under the “Unlawful Combatants Law,” which allows for detention with no specified period, no charges necessary.  Safiya’s lawyer Nasser Odeh recently visited him and stated he had trouble recognizing his client, after he was severely beaten by 5 guards using batons and hammers.  He had trouble maintaining consciousness and was barely able to breathe.  He stated Dr Safiya has received no medical treatment.  An Israeli spokesperson denied the claims.
Medical staff, along with Amnesty International have denied that Safiya cooperated with or worked for Hamas.

The United Nation’s Committee against Torture said it’s deeply concerned about reports indicating “a de facto state policy of organized and widespread torture and ill treatment” of Palestinians in Israeli jails.  The group Physicians for Human Rights has said at least 94 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody in less than two years.
Amnesty International is calling for action, a spokesperson calling the situation “truly horrifying.”  They are requesting immediate medical treatment.

A few days ago, Israeli settlers detained our Congressmember Ro Khanna for 90 minutes while brandishing American made rifles at him and blocking his vehicle during a visit to the occupied West Bank to observe.  We cannot claim any American exceptionalism while supporting efforts to obliterate an entire population of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

It should not be considered antisemitic to stop giving Israel funding and support when they clearly operate outside the law.  We need a president who has the nerve to call Israel out.  Your vote matters to the rest of the world.

Trump has been consistent in one particular area since “day one.”  Hundreds of lawsuits have resulted from his attempts to prevent fair elections, by punishing those who had any connection to his loss to Biden in 2020 and rewarding anyone who went along with his fantasy he was cheated somehow.  He has made attempts to thwart voting by mail, to take control of voting systems, made threats to election officials, firing those who keep elections fair.  It started with pardoning the January 6th rioters, then later pardoning 77 allies who supported subversion of the 2020 election, like the fake electors.  He filed a habeas petition on behalf of convicted felon Tina Peters, who was eventually pardoned by Colorado’s governor.  He has written many executive orders that harmed cybersecurity infrastructure funding (by at least $10 million) fired people responsible for fair elections by DOGE chainsaw, punished private law firms, appointed several election deniers to vital positions (Bondi, Patel,
the head of the civil rights division at DOJ).  The DOJ has dismissed numerous cases that were pro-voter, while filing litigation demanding control of voter lists & data.

It should surprise no one that Trump fired the last remaining members of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission, which was created by the Help America Vote Act after Bush v. Gore in 2002.  The EAC maintains the voter registration form created by 1993 National Voter Act, provides funding for security, must have an equal number of Democrats and Republicans.  These members need to be confirmed by the Senate.  With four months to go, it’s highly unlikely the EAC will be reconstituted in time. It’s so important to stay informed and to show up to vote.  We cannot allow Trump to get away with his assault on our right to vote.

Definition of Crypto: from Greek Kryptós = hidden.  Trump’s cryptocurrency firm World Liberty Financial is seeking federal approval to receive a National Trust bank charter, a new way for U.S. companies to put money directly into his pocket.  This might be his biggest grift to date, lasting many years after he is no longer president.
Cryptocurrency began as a way to trade out of the jurisdiction of federal banking regulations.  Now that Trump’s appointee Jonathan Gould is in place at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, approval for any risky venture seeking a bank charters is a guarantee.

Many crypto companies, major automakers and companies like PayPal have been granted preliminary approval for these charters. So instead of federal regulators guaranteeing investments by FDIC insurance, they are opening up banking to extremely risky ventures.  This goes along with the administration’s crippling of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its ability to assist with complaints of consumer ripoffs.  Risks in this industry include likely money laundering, high fees, hacking and scams.  The value of digital currency is driven by the word of people like Elon Musk, whose pronouncements on social media can topple or hike profits over a short period of time.  This is a huge “pump and dump” process.

After 2008, and the “Great Recession,” there were systematic reforms put in place to protect consumers.  It’s almost like the government has foregone protection of anyone but Trump and others who stand to make the most from these trades.  As the saying goes, “never invest more money than you can afford to lose.”

The king of pettiness has affected even the most basic government functions, like FEMA relief for state disasters.  The White House is denying that emergency aid by this president is politically motivated.  Politico reports that Trump has approved just 23% of disaster requests from states whose Governors and two Senators are Democrats, compared to 89% of those by states from Republicans in those positions. Recently, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts had aid rejected  after the severe snowstorms. Two days previously, he approved FEMA funding for six Republican led states.  Lawmakers from democratic led states have demanded documents and answers, and appealed those denials.  Congress has stated: “snowstorms shall be eligible for federal relief.”  Trump has spent much of his time in office attempting to weaken FEMA.  He wants to shift financial responsibility solely to the states.  FEMA recently implemented raised damage thresholds to determine if a state qualifies for financial help.  All four Democratic led states exceeded that limit by quite a bit.  The denial for those states all occurred after they had sufficient damage to qualify for relief.  The states he approved were closer to the qualifying limits set by FEMA.  Most times, Trump praises the Republican legislators or Governors of states that had aid requested by the Democrat in that same state like in Wisconsin and Kansas recently.  Trump has caused a partisan divide on every single issue for which government is responsible.

We need to go back to a better way - namely not supporting the worst instincts of an authoritarian.  Please #VoteBlue for a return to bipartisanship.

Why should Americans care about the Housing Bill that became law over the weekend without the president’s signature?  It passed in the House in a 358-32 vote and the Senate approved the measure 85-5.  This bipartisan bill was veto-proof.  That’s because they wanted to help the people.  Trump refused to sign it because the Senate would not pass the SAVE Act.  So how does it help the people?  It seeks to remove barriers to building homes, lower housing costs, and shift greater control over housing to the local level.  It will also restrict the number of single-family homes large, institutional investors can own and require them to report how many such properties they control.  The law includes a first-of-its-kind limit on these kinds of purchases by prohibiting any investor that owns more than 350 single-family homes from buying any more.  We know that bipartisan legislation is possible and by electing more Democrats, we can make sure more bills get passed to help the people!

If you are wondering why the United States has been moving to fascism, look at the recent decision Trump v Slaughter.  The Supreme Court has been trending ever more towards embracing “unitary executive theory.”   The court issued their decision, all but obliterating the exceptions to the president firing anyone who he wants, without regard to cause.  The six “conservatives” have been allowing Trump more power by using the emergency docket, in firing at least three administrators of federal agencies designed to be bipartisan, like the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and the National Labor Relations Board.  The solicitor general argued that “Article II grants the President conclusive and preclusive power to remove executive officers.”

Not long ago, even Supreme Court Justice Rehnquist, himself a conservative, in Morrison v. Olsen rejected a more powerful presidency.  The framers would be shocked at how easily the Supreme Court has been embracing the theory we have a king.  Tell your members of congress we fought a revolution over that.

The President has muddled thinking, deteriorating rapidly every day.  So who writes his speeches?

Trump has never really cared about policy, he uses his speeches mostly to bloviate upon his imagined greatness.  Look no further than Ross Worthington and Vince Haley.  Both are associated with all the worst ideas of Newt Gingrich, Stephen Miller, and Steve Bannon.  Both have  co-authored books with Gingrich.  Haley is a lawyer and director of the Domestic Policy Council.  Worthington, Director of speechwriting and head author, is a protégé of Stephen Miller.  He was responsible for writing Trump’s January 6thtirade.  Steve Bannon, former campaign CEO for Trump, of Breitbart - remember his “American carnage” speech?  He was fired yet somehow still influencing Trump.

How did Stephen Miller come to have such an outsized influence?  Recall Miller was originally working for Jeff Sessions, the first to endorse Trump in 2016.  Sessions aligned himself with Trump after he asked him to testify before a Senate subcommittee to share his “construction knowledge.”  They shared ideas of strict immigration, tough on crime rhetoric, and skepticism of former trade agreements.  Sessions was pushed out when he recused himself over the 2016 Russia investigation, while Attorney General.

What unifies all these men? Hate and pessimism.  Get out the vote for candidates who believe America is a nation of immigrants.  We can revive the more pragmatic idea that all will prosper when everyone unites.

Donald Trump Jr has 300,000 shares of GrabAGun, a company involved in mailing ammunition and accessories to gun owners.  Surprise, the Trump ATF and DOJ are currently contemplating rolling back more than 30 regulations on guns.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 and a postal law from 1927 (18 U.S.C. §922 and §1715) currently restrict interstate gun sales to federally licensed dealers. The dealer acts as a middleman, performing in person background checks for private individuals.  The gun dealer requires ATF form 4473 to be filled out by potential purchaser.  This rule would be changed from an in person decision to remote background checks.  Don Jr’s investment is just a coincidence, right?

The regulatory rollbacks to gun laws include the rule Biden signed requiring sellers at gun shows perform a background check.  Also included is the easing of paperwork violations (remember Hunter Biden?), even allowing people with known mental illness to obtain guns, and the direct mailing of pistols & revolvers to anyone.

Are you surprised to learn that over 95% of gun manufacturers’ contributions go to Republicans, and that the Trump regime has for the first time created a civil rights division on gun rights within the DOJ?  Until we vote out the  Congress members that put money above all else, we will continue to have guns falling into the wrong hands.  It’s the leading cause of death for children in America.  #VoteBlue for gun safety.
