The California State Assembly has passed the Protect Our Games Act, a bill to protect user rights after a game's service ends
Under this, games shutting down would need to provide at least 60 days notice to consumers, while also ensuring that purchasers will still have access to the game via an alt version or patch that allows it to be played offline. And if not, they must offer refunds
The bill must still be passed by the California Senate
For the past ~200 days I've been learning how to build my very own game engine. From the first pixel on screen to now, its been the most exciting ride of my game dev career so far.
Thank you for following, for giving feedback and ideas. I hope you are ready for an adventure!

43 years ago today, one of the best early multiplayer games ever was released: M.U.L.E.
Most games in the 80s were single-player experiences. Some offered a two-player option.
M.U.L.E. was the earliest to introduce a true four-player option. The auction system was brilliant, and so was the bidding for each plot of land. Very basic principles of supply and demand, beautifully packed into a game. It was also a great example of blending real-time and turn-based gracefully, getting the best out of both styles.
I still consider it one of the best games of that early to mid 80s era. Ozark Softscape created some wonderful games; one of the true pioneers of the 8-bit era.
The heart and soul behind Ozark Softscape was always Danielle Berry Bunten Berry, and she always put a strong emphasis on the importance of a multiplayer option, quote: "No one ever said on their deathbed: Gee, I wish I had spent more time alone with my computer." - I am sure everyone agrees that playing against your friends is infinitely more fun than against the computer.

In exactly 1 week my game launches on Kickstarter and I am equally excited and terrified🥹😭
I moved to Spain, quit my software engineering career, taught myself pixel art from zero, and spent 10 months building a cozy game. Every single pixel is hand-drawn by me 🥹💖
