Ibadan is battling floods, and instead of protecting the city’s natural flood defences, over 46 hectares of forest land behind Agodi Gardens have reportedly been turned into a private estate. What exactly is the Seyi Makinde-led government protecting: the people or private interests?
When natural vegetation is destroyed and floodways are obstructed, ordinary residents pay the price while those behind questionable developments enjoy their estates. Is this what governance has been reduced to under Makinde?
The allegations linking companies owned by Bimbo Adekanmbi to estate developments on public land demand urgent answers. Ibadan is not anyone’s private playground, and its environment must not be sacrificed for private gain.
Makinde must stop hiding behind political grandstanding and explain who authorised these developments, what environmental assessments were conducted, and who will take responsibility for the consequences. The people of Oyo State deserve answers, not excuses!
