BREAKING: Burkina Faso’s ex-Transport Minister, Vincent Dabilgou sentenced to eleven years in prison for funds embezzlement

A court in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou on Thursday August 17 sentenced Vincent Dabilgou, former Transport minister under deposed leader Roch Christian Kaboré to eleven years in prison for embezzlement of public funds, money laundering and political party financing.

The Court also indicated the former minister will serve seven suspended years and will pay €4.7 million in fine. The Tribunal also suspended activities of his party, Nouveau Temps pour la Démocratie (NTD).

The court ordered in addition the seizure of his assets to the value of the money embezzled and suspended him from all political activities for five years.

Dabilgou was minister from 2018 to 2022 until the removal of Kabore in 2022 by a junta. Four other people including two who worked in the department of the defendant, were also handed prison sentences ranging from six to eleven years in addition to heavy fines.

ECOWAS military chiefs eventually met on Ghana and after their meeting declared that they are battle ready for Niger. In other words, they’re ready to move into Niger for a military intervention at a moment’s notice, as soon as it becomes obvious the bloc isn’t getting anywhere with diplomacy in Niger.

According to the Nigerian Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, who was in attendance, “Democracy is what we stand for and it’s what we encourage. The focus of our gathering is not simply to react to events, but to proactively chart a course that results in peace and promote stability.”

All member nations were in attendance except, Cape Verde and the nations that are currently under military rule.

There has been no official reaction from the Nigerien administration which maintains that it will respond aggressively and ferociously to any military intervention in Niger by any means possible.

Governor Adeleke Hosts, Dances With Osun-Born Falcons Players

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, danced with Super Falcons players, Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran who are both indigenes of the state.

Adeleke hosted the Nigerian sports ambassadors in his home at Ede for their fantastic performance at the Women's World Cup.

In the video shared on Sunday, the trio could be seen stepping to songs and drums performed in the Yoruba culture.

Rofiat who hails from Ile-Ogbo of the state plays as a defender in the Falcons' team, while Rasheedat who plays as a forward for Spanish Liga F club Atlético Madrid hails from Ikirun in the state.

BREAKING: ECOWAS member state, Cape Verde opposes military intervention in Niger.

According to the country’s president, Jose Maria Neves, “We all should work to restore constitutional order in Niger but in no way through a military intervention or an armed conflict at this point. We should actively engage in talks and resolve issues diplomatically because any military intervention will make the situation worse, turning the region into an explosive zone," Agence France-Presse quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, a meeting of  defence chiefs of ECOWAS member nations scheduled to hold in Accra,Ghana, yesterday, Saturday, August 12, to concretize the planned troops deployment for military intervention in Niger Republic, was unexpectedly called off. Reason being that member nations are divided on the need for such an intervention at this time.

Cape Verde joins the ranks of Sierra Leone, Ghana, Liberia and Togo who earlier on declined to take position on the proposed military intervention in Niger. This explains why the proposed Accra, Ghana meeting of ECOWAS military chiefs eventually failed to hold.

Not sure if it’s a coincidence, but all these institutional resistance to military intervention became more evident and grew louder shortly after RUSSIA openly warned against military intervention in Niger. Beyond that, Africans have been up in arms against the rushed decision and the campaign against it has been robust and simply overwhelming, both online and on-site.

Interestingly, some 94 French lawmakers have blasted President Emmanuel Macron in an open letter following the Niger coup. They warned that France was at the risk of being squeezed out of Africa by global powers like Russia, China, etc. They urged Macron to rethink France's Africa policy as it had failed to win over cooperation from the Africans.

Bottomline, the voice of the people of AFRICA is being heard loud and clear, more than at any other time in history. Enough is enough! The time for Africa’s freedom is now and it’s mot negotiable. Never ever give up on mama. Viva AFRICA!

BREAKING: “If you launch any military strike on Niger Republic, we will immediately execute former president, Mohamed Bazoum.” - The Nigerien junta.

So, yesterday, August 10, 2023 ECOWAS’s extraordinary section held and they came to the conclusion that it was now time to deploy their “stand-by force” to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic by force. ECOWAS said all efforts at seeking a diplomatic pathway to resolving the impasse had failed. Nigeria’s Bola TINUBU who is also the ECOWAS chairman was quoted as saying, “No choice is excluded, including the use of force as a last resort.” ECOWAS believes that “last resort” is all they’re left with now, which implies war is imminent.

In responding to the threat of military intervention by ECOWAS and all the other partners like AU, and probably other foreign bodies, the new military administration in Niger has declared that if ECOWAS goes ahead to carry out their threat, that the first they (the Nigerien junta) will do would be to immediately execute (kill) the ousted former president of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum as a foreign agent.
