The reason why her rescue and release are closer together is because she was around 5 years old when she was kept as a pet and had already developed a lot of the skills needed to survive in the wild.
Photos taken by the BOS foundation in 2020 of Alba, the worlds only known albino orangutan. She was released kept as a pet until she was rescued in 2017 and was returned to the wild a year later. She is still thriving in the wild today.
Similarly to chimpanzees, evidence of culture has been observed in orangutans from different areas, mostly regarding their use of tools. For example it has been seen in some areas that orangutans will use leaves as gloves to reach fruit from thorny branches and to swat away bees.
