Orbiton - The last goodbye
We Were Lost. We Were Invincible. Now, We Choose to Say Goodbye.
Let me tell you how it all began.
It was a sunny afternoon when Mike (25) turned to Hans (23) and Daniel (24) and asked, “Why isn’t there a CLMM on TON yet?”
The answers came quickly. The infrastructure wasn’t ready. The architecture was tricky. Maybe TON didn’t even need it - yet.
Then came the bold reply: “Why don’t we try building it ourselves?”
And just like that, Orbiton was born.
Fueled by pure builder spirit, the three of us dove headfirst into code. Within two weeks, our scrappy side project was beginning to take shape. And then - an unexpected twist: the Hackathon Hacker League 2024.
This was the flagship hackathon of the year on TON, drawing builders from every corner of the globe. For us, it was a chance to test whether Orbiton was on the right trajectory. But we knew our pitch needed work. Our GTM strategy was shaky. That’s when James (30) joined the team.
Four dreamers. One shot.
We traveled 1,687 kilometers to a city none of us had ever been to - Ho Chi Minh City - for the hackathon bootcamp. But things didn’t go as planned. Due to logistical hiccups, the entire event went online. So instead of exploring the city, we hunkered down for three days straight - coding, debugging, rehearsing.
Diet Coke. Pizza. Bread. Snacks. That was our fuel.
Then came pitch day. James delivered a flawless 5-minute presentation - one of the best he’d ever done in his life, he said. Confident, we shut our laptops and headed out for drinks, dreaming about at least a third-place prize to cover our travel expenses. Orbiton wasn’t polished yet, but it already felt like a smooth, user-focused DeFi miniapp.
But the miracle never came.
Not even third place.
That night, by the river in Saigon, tears fell. We were shattered. As our plane left the city, it felt like our dream had ended before it even started.
Still, we kept building.
Because building isn’t something we do. It’s who we are.
And then - it happened. Hackathon organizers reached out: Orbiton had made it to the final round.
Adrenaline surged. Hope returned. This time, we swore - we wouldn’t fail.
The ghost of our previous fall still lingered. We felt the pressure. We knew we hadn’t nailed the final pitch the way we had at bootcamp. We comforted ourselves: maybe we could win a sponsored track - maybe Dedust would recognize our work.
The announcement day arrived.
And suddenly, we won. Third place, Dedust’s track. Our call exploded into chaos.
“We won something! We actually won!”
It felt surreal - but it wasn’t over yet.
We didn’t even dare dream of winning the DeFi Unicorn Track. That felt like a prize for giants. As they announced third, then second place - other projects were called. We prepared for disappointment.
Then it happened.
“1st prize: Orbiton.”
Silence. Then disbelief. Then madness.
We raced to find each other. We jumped on our scooters and tore through the city, singing at the top of our lungs. That night, we didn’t just win a hackathon.
We ruled the world.
But the mountain doesn’t end at the summit.
Winning a hackathon is hard. But launching a real product? Infinitely harder.
We pitched to dozens of VCs. Not a single yes.
We ran campaigns, only to realize the TON community was still too small.
We applied for a TON Foundation grant - rejected. Then the grant program disappeared altogether.
https://t.co/1DA8FkG5jW became the only one who gave us hope. We applied for their grant. But again, challenges far beyond code blocked our way.
We learned our lessons the hard way:
- Great code isn’t enough. You need GTM, capital, strategic support.
- Never let failure crush your passion.
- TON has serious infrastructure pain points. 15s+ transaction finality kills UX.
- TON needs something truly different - not AI, not memes, not gamefi. Look at how Solana rode the meme wave, or Base rode the AI trend. TON needs a breakout idea.
- And when that breakout moment arrives, DeFi must be ready. DeFi is the backbone. Memes on Solana would’ve gone nowhere without Phantom, Raydium, Jupiter.
And so, today, Orbiton ends.
Not because the dream is gone. But because it’s evolving - into a new shape, a new project, a new tomorrow.
We want to thank everyone who supported us - our beloved mentor @tucq88 , TON Society @toncommunity , Josephine from TON SEA @tonssea, Dedust @dedust_io , https://t.co/1DA8FkG5jW @ston_fi Your belief meant the world.
We’ve open-sourced everything - smart contracts, frontend, backend. If you’re building a DEX on TON, or building CLMM with FunC, or improving one, take a look. Those lines of code won us first prize. They carry our pride.
This is goodbye - for now.
But we’ll see you again.
One day.
