Call me old fashioned but had connected with a young fresh 2025 pass out from my college when he sent message on LinkedIn. His first message started with - Hi Saket, we are from same college…. And he lost me there itself. Son, you are 2025 pass out and address 1994 pass out with first name. I still address 1993 and earlier pass out as ‘Sir’. This Americanised culture..

Kangana stopped being funny a while ago, but now she's painful to watch. The fact that this woman has grown so influential in our country is a complete disaster.
Please stop laughing at the Sanghis; this is an absolute tragedy. We should be crying, wondering how the hell we got here?
Men will get into a cab at night alone, sleep & wake up when they reach
Women get into a cab, send live location to 5 ppl, call someone & loudly inform the cab number + ETA, map the route + track & be HYPER vigilant because we fear getting r*ped + k*lled
But, shit, not all men.
Does any other woman feel tired ? Tired of even reacting, tired of getting angry, tired of feeling helpless, tired of demanding justice, tired of protesting, tired of expecting justice, tired of the empty words. She knows nothing will change. The cycle just repeats. Just tired.
Every woman around you has at least one story about sexual abuse she will never tell you. What you know about women’s safety and the lack of it is just scratching the surface.
Men, do better. Do much much better. Hold other men accountable.
5 Irritating things about Umar Khalid:
1. "Hmm hmm" If he is listening to you, he will say "hmm hmm" at least 20-30 times per minute.
2. He has a habit of standing with one hand on his back, pressing down hard as if trying to straighten his back.
3. Scholars cite sources in their books; he cites sources in casual conversations. Even if the subject is as stupid as Farts.
4. "However". Even when Umar agrees with you, he always manages to bring the conversation back to "However." (Those who know him understand what I mean.)
5. His chuckle. Yes, it's irritating.
These things could irritate those close to him. But the most vexing aspect of him is the questions he poses to the power. On a global scale, he irritates the authorities and the state.
The people in power, including the PM, HM, police, and Sanghis, are well aware that he is not capable of violence. But his questions, his voice, and his arguments have the potential to dethrone them.
And we adore him for being so irritating to the powers.
It's been 1400 days since he was imprisoned, and tomorrow he writes on a piece of paper that he will remain silent (like Savarkar), and they may even let him out.
But he won't because he's worked hard to be this irritating to the power. He has studied for it (Phd).
I hope he continues to be irritating for the rest of his life. I hope his annoyance multiplies many times over. I hope the world has more irritating people like him. I hope his annoyance makes the lives of the powerful difficult and the lives of the less fortunate easier.
(This is something I wrote after Umar completed 1000 days in jail; I'm reposting it to emphasize that nothing has changed.)

The super rich and powerful Indians have one trait that's common.
A state can continue to burn, hundreds can drown in floods, train tragedies can happen, jawans can get martyred, buses can fall off cliffs, bridges can collapse, drought can hit, inflation can rip through the sky...
But the garish celebrations and lavish foreign jaunts of the rich and the powerful will never stop. There's not even a moment of remorse or sadness ever shown or felt. They don't live for the country, they live to make more money and capture more power one way or the other.
Why do religious babas who are no less than charlatans and criminals have such big followership in India?
There has to be a massive vaccuum left by the existing divine ideologies leading to unsatisfied believers seeking redemption elsewhere.
The last time I saw Umar Khalid was in Jaipur, 3-4 days before he was arrested.
It was a slow and usual evening meeting, and both he and I were aware that he would be arrested. We knew he wouldn't be released from jail for at least 6 months because he had UAPA charges.
I am a bit older than him. We both have Muslim names, and we have similar political ideologies, but he is significantly more left-leaning than I.
I grinned and joked at some point, although I don't recall the context, "Aren't you that famous Jihadi, Umar Khalid?"
Well, being the person he is, he countered, "Don't worry, you aren't as famous yet. You may not be aware of it, but you are also a Jihadi. In India, we don't decide who we are, they do" .
He has been in jail since September 14, 2020. He was so right, "They do decide who we are."
Red flags- 🚩
Men who say things like “wedding means the union of two families” and how parents’ approvals define a ‘happy marriage’.
Girls, run away from them.
