Brassia maculata, a spider orchid, so-called for its interesting pollination. Confused wasps pollinate this orchid, the wasps think the flowers are a type of spider that that lay their eggs on. Pollinating when they attack. Blooming now in the tropical rainforest @FairchildGarden

Fairchild’s Million Orchid Project is a massive educational outreach program dedicated to orchid conservation. Now in it’s tenth year we have hit the halfway mark with 500,000 native orchids planted, many of which are rare and endangered species. #orchid #orchidconservation

We had an exciting day with @ywprep … they learned sterile techniques for propagating orchids, toured the Science Village labs and learned about seed banking, and walked through the rainforest, which houses a large number of native orchids.
