What are the best and the worst McDonald's foods for weight loss and metabolic health?
As we try to make it simple to eat better, we're ranking foods from the world's biggest restaurant chains. McDonald's happens to be #1 in terms of number of restaurants.
McDonald's has a poor reputation for food quality, which unfortunately is reflected in our satiety scoring.
With the @JoinHava satiety scores, we rank foods based on their protein percentage, energy density, fiber content and how hedonic (hyper-palatable) our algorithm predicts that they are.
I came into this expecting low scores, but I was still surprised. Ranking 36 different items on their menu, not a single food scored even average (50 out of 100 in our scoring). In fact, the highest-scoring food was apple slices at 47. Nothing else came even close.π
The scores
Scores to the left, in the orange zone, are predicted to promote eating more than we need. They promote weight gain.
Scores in the middle have balanced satiety per calorie scores. They can be good for achieving or maintaining a normal weight.
Scores to the right (blue zone) promote a lean physique or rapid weight loss. Here's how the most popular McDonald's options do:
The low
All sweets and treats score super low, but also look out for French fries (9) and hash browns (11). They are both pretty much carbs fried in fat.
Most burgers also score low, in the low to mid-20s.
Another, more shocking, low score is the "Fruit and maple oatmeal breakfast" at 28. Fruit and oatmeal sounds reasonable, but it turns out that McDonald's add so much sugar that it's basically 50% oatmeal, 50% added sugar.
Almost all other breakfast options score even lower. There is just one exception (coming up).
Top-scoring menu options
If you want to eat off the regular McDonald's menu, and you want a bigger meal than apple slices, you have 4 options that score a 30+.
From the lowest to the highest, they are:
β Quarter pounder with cheese, 30
β Chicken McNuggets, 34
β Double quarter pounder with cheese, 36
β Egg McMuffin, 36
Of course, 36 is still far from high. If you want higher than this, and you only have McDonald's, you'll have to go off-menu.
For example, removing the buns on the burgers or Egg McMuffins above and perhaps adding another burger patty will significantly raise the scores.
Do you eat at McDonald's? What's your favorite, and do you have any tips for people who want higher satiety per calorie foods?

We'll soon set up a new "Places" category for restaurants and places. Until then, you can find these under the second tab, under "Foods", then "Meals", then "Restaurants & places".

The diver retains the horizontal motion of the RV when they leave the springboard. However, if the RV is accelerating, they may end up missing the pool entirely, as shown in the second. In this case, the diver's motion relative to the ground does not match the moving RV, resulting in missing the pool
