Yesterday afternoon, healthcare assistants employed by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust submitted their #PayFairForPatientCare grievance to trust bosses, demanding recognition, respect and reward for the work they do. ✊
They also had cakes for NHS staff! 🧁

The attack on Filipino nurses on Friday night on their way to provide emergency cover at a hospital was absolutely disgusting and disgraceful.
As a public service union, we’re proud of our migrant health, NHS and care staff and we will be supporting them however we can.
Our Political Fund Ballot is open 🗳️
Our political fund is crucial. We need it to campaign on the issues that matter most to our members.

We’re seeking witnesses who worked with David Nicholson throughout his career, particularly those who worked for pipefitting contractor Capper Pipe Service Company Limited or on the construction of the British Titan Products tioxide plant in Greatham, between 1970 and 1971. BALLOT OPEN 🚨
For too long healthcare assistants at Derriford Hospital have been paid at Band 2 whilst carrying out Band 3 work.
It's time everyone was re-banded to the pay they deserve.
It's time to vote for action.

Today we honour the memory of workers who have lost their lives on the job. Their sacrifice reminds us of the importance of workplace safety and the need to fight for the rights and protections all workers deserve.

Prime Minister should focus on the NHS, not demonise those too sick to work, says UNISON
"The Prime Minister has promised and failed to cut NHS waiting lists," UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea on PM Rishi Sunak's proposals on welfare reform.
"Worse still, his government has damaged the public services people were once able to rely upon to get better and stay healthy.
"Lengthy waits for NHS operations and treatment have left people languishing at home, too sick or injured to work. That's a personal tragedy for them and terrible for the economy too.
"Instead of hostile rhetoric on benefits, ministers should be recruiting to fill the huge gaps in the NHS workforce. That would increase capacity and allow more patients to be seen.
"Boosting pay to persuade experienced staff to remain in the health service is key too. But it's now more than a fortnight since the government should have announced this year's NHS pay rise.
"Threatening to remove benefits and forcing sick and disabled people further into poverty is most definitely not the way to increase the health of our sick nation."
Is it any wonder so many people are on long term sick when NHS waiting lists are so long?
The PM wants a healthy workforce, but his Party has damaged the public services that everyone relies on to get better and stay healthy.

UNISON ‘unequivocally condemns’ Tory donor’s ‘horrific abuse’ of Diane Abbott @HackneyAbbott
‘No woman in public life should have to accept this kind of abuse and intimidation,’ Christina McAnea @cmcanea
UNISON considers comments made by Frank Hester, the Tory Party’s biggest donor, to be racist and sexist, unacceptable and dangerous.
Diane Abbott MP has been a significant public figure since 1987, the first to open doors into political leadership for Black women. No woman in public life should have to accept this kind of abuse and intimidation. Black women all over the UK feel labelled, hurt, and scared.
UNISON unequivocally condemns Frank Hesters’s racist, violent language. The Prime Minister was also slow to acknowledge the comments as racist and wrong.
UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said: “The personalised, horrific abuse levelled at Diane Abbott is frightening. She has had to endure intolerable abuse and intimidation. Our members expect us to call this out. The government should do the same.”
