Not long ago, I was appointed as the Attorney-General of Lawsan. This is a culmination of efforts as a student practitioner. Today isn't ripe to tell a story.
Alhamdulillah!
Yet, every challenge became another lesson, and every setback became another reason to keep going.
Today, I stand as a seasoned and fearless advocate, not because the journey was perfect, but because I refused to quit.
Yesterday, I was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of LAWSAN (SAL), a symbolic reflection of the revered rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. This honour means much more to me than a title, it is a reminder that growth is possible for anyone willing to embrace
Many saw only my weaknesses, but I chose to see possibilities.
I committed myself to learning, reading, listening, practising, and improving every single day. The journey was not easy. There were moments of embarrassment, discouragement, and self-doubt.
There was a time when speaking or communicating effectively in English was one of my greatest challenges. I often struggled to express myself, doubted my abilities, and wondered whether I truly belonged in spaces where eloquence and advocacy were celebrated.
Leadership isn't about being in charge, it's about taking care of those in your charge. We deserve a leader that prioritizes the welfarism of the student. I Orelope Abdulbaseet Omobolaji (ORHAY OF LAW) declares my candidacy to take care of those in my charge upon emergence.
But of course, we also extended the frontiers of courtroom practice and persuaded the court to hold in our favour. As God would have it, we triumphed and made our way to victory.
Let it be on record that on the 23rd January, 2026 around the hours of 10:30 AM, I, Orelope Abdulbaseet Omobolaji, led my team in the Lawsan moot trial as the Lead Counsel to the respondents. Being the first of its kind as a Lead Counsel, I was in a state of dubiety,
perturbed overnight and aggressively craving to set a record. The appellant was ably represented by counsels who know law as though it were their palm, they navigated the proceedings with top-notch advocacy skills that raised my doubt as to my competency.
