@camiinthisthang If you haven’t already, acknowledge to yourself that gathering information and making/influencing decisions are actual parts of your job.
I felt so unproductive until I shifted my mindset to consider these in my mental model of “productivity.”
@ChristinGorman We started posting tech efficiency improvements* in the same company-wide “new-wins” slack channel that sales uses for new customer contracts.
*Faster release cycles, improved automated test coverage, shorter service starts, etc.
@Dtreey88 @MsSnowBeanie Many women in tech prefer to work in spaces that have are more diverse and less discriminatory, so it’s not uncommon to find over-the-average percentages of women in one place.
And vice versa. Stack Overflow has been known to skew more male than the average for several reasons.
@ledford3katie@garylj46@BPrainsack @Black0verflow @elonmusk I’d venture to guess that there are more women who dye their hair and know how to code than who don’t dye their hair and know how to code. But again, that’s not one of the things we look at in code reviews, so I might be wrong.
@Soufiane_ku @Brown_built@gammamukja@ABigotteAlmeida@elonmusk Is it though? My last round of tech interviews was 2/3 women. Not because there are 2/3 women in tech, but because we strive for an inclusive environment. Women are eager to work in a place where they don’t have to deal with the typical discrimination and harassment.
@garylj46@BPrainsack @Black0verflow @elonmusk What’s wrong with hiring women who dye their hair and know how to twerk? I’ve never had these things come up in a pull request.
@SergioDBanda@dianasoyster Is the surprise that people were willing to share their stories publicly? Because I don’t think I’ve met a woman in tech who doesn’t have a story like these.
Had our first visit at an end user's office today. Incredibly useful! My brain is full of new ideas and insights. All developers should spent a day a month either using, or interacting with users of the software they work on:
@pati_gallardo You are helping just by being supportive and creating safe spaces for femme women.
I used to follow the tech-woman dress code to signal my technical skills, and now that I don’t, I sometimes feel judged by other women for being too “woman” and not enough “tech.”
Scaling is easy in the cloud, right?
@Origameg talks on DotNetRocks at https://t.co/xsJLy0vKz4 about the limits of auto-scaling, locating bottlenecks, and doing something about them!
My interview on cloud scaling with .NET Rocks! was released today (unrelated to it being my birthday)! 🎂🎤
Ignore the awkward pauses in the beginning. This was my first foray into the medium! 😂 https://t.co/1IIExInH34
@lianmakesthings I didn’t see your tweet until a few days after the fact, but I have been wanting to thank you for speaking out about it. It’s not easy, but it’s important - for men to understand and for women to know they’re not alone.
@ChristinGorman I think “finding faults with analogies” is a favorite hobby of developers!
Maybe everyone is just too much in the habit of picking through details to identify bugs. 😂
My NDC:
Wed - Present my talk on cloud scalability
Thu - Join .NET Rocks! to talk about cloud scaling
Fri - Relax and listen to other people talk about cloud scaling!
