Trying to imagine the response from the British political class if it was another minority faith community who were locked inside their place of worship as bigots threatened them.
But it’s Muslims… so… who cares!
Notice how the police treat violent protests from the right with kids gloves while the left get battered. I wonder what conclusions about the police and who and what our society is built to serve can be drawn from that
ITV News and the BBC referred to Omar Artan as a “Somali refugee” and “Somalia’s top refugee” instead of correctly identifying him as a professional referee.
They’re shamelessly pushing a narrative about a man who was travelling for work
Being an AIPAC "Activist of the Year" would normally disqualify a journalist from being able to objectively cover a candidate who's critical of Israel, but not at the New York Times.
like I was saying yesterday, the separation of sex and gender has been a disaster and has really allowed for the cementing of this cisheteropatriarchal idea that sex is immutable and objective (gobbledygook) to take root among all sectors of society including our own people.
The modern right have intentionally racialised crime to a point where if you point out that England has been letting off 99% of reported rapists the majority of them native brits.
They dont even attempt to feign interest or they get angry at you.
There is unquestionably a stain on the World Cup thanks to the policies of the current admin.
Players, coaches, referees, fans… everyone should be welcome to enjoy the beautiful game in the US & detaining or refusing entry won’t be something the world will forget.
I was purely referring to the road tripping across our country by fans from other countries when I referred to enjoying off the field stories.
Chill.
Unless you’re a fan whose visa was denied, losing your life savings.
A referee whose participation was withdrawn after a lifetime of work.
A player who couldn’t focus without certainty as to if, or when, you were going to be allowed to play in the biggest moment of your young life, and most precious memory as you will age.
A country that had to change venues because you’re being bombed by the hosts.
A staff member denied a World Cup after years of dedication in qualifying.
A spectator who sold your house to pay for exorbitant tickets.
Aside from that, relax.
On the first day of the war, U.S. precision strikes killed 120 children at a school and 21 civilians at/near a sports hall. Just last night, precision strikes destroyed a drinking water facility serving 20,000 people in 100°F heat. “Very precise, very controlled.”
Just in: A video from inside a court in occupied Jerusalem shows Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya appearing via video link and attempting to speak with his attorney before Israeli court security blocked the screen and terminated the call, preventing journalists from filming the exchange or the video appearance.
I listened carefully to what the attorney was saying to Dr. Abu Safiya. It appeared that Dr. Abu Safiya could not hear him. The attorney repeatedly stated that he could neither see nor hear Dr. Abu Safiya after his “captors turned off the camera.” He also informed him that some people were present in the courtroom to show their support and that they were waiting for the judge to arrive so that he could be brought back on screen before the court addressed the appeal.
This is Israel’s democracy. Dr. Abu Safiya has been subjected to starvation, abuse, and cruel torture, and this latest development only adds to concerns about the conditions he has endured and the lack of public scrutiny surrounding his case.
Haven't seen this World Cup visa denial story circulating yet. Moroccan player Zakaria El Ouahdi, who plays in Belgium's top division, was initially denied a US visa on the basis that his father has what authorities deemed a suspicious beard
When a white person commits a violent crime, they are treated as individuals. A single bad apple. When it's a black or brown person, they're treated like a monolith. Acting like the Belfast attacker represents all immigrants is like saying Ian Huntley represents all white people.
More than a few hamburger joints operating in southern Lebanon that could have been covered. Hell, there are hamburger joints in Tyre and in south Beirut, in Dahieh. If that's the criterion by which someone is granted humanity.
ok not to be a tweet stealer but ranch dressing is only coded as declasse because it's American. If the french made an emulsion of oil, buttermilk, garlic, dill, mustard, chives, and parsley, y'all would pay 6 dollars for a side of it
Slavery was so long ago and we’re supposed to be over it until you want to have an image of the resistance of enslaved people, then it’s too political. They will never forgive Haiti for winning their freedom. They made Haiti pay France reparations for 150 years and still salty.
