Despite being sold as one, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit is not a new benefit.

It is the GST/HST credit under a new name.

With a one-time 50% top-up on June 5.

And a 25% increase in quarterly payments for five years.

The PBO confirmed 12.1 million recipients with an average payment of $252.

The government said a family of four could receive up to $1,890.

That is the maximum annual amount for the lowest income families across all payments combined.

Not the June 5 payment.

The benefit phases out starting at approximately $45,521 adjusted family net income.

A family earning $75,000 gets zero.

Someone on disability gets approximately $250.

Like so much of what this liberal government does, they've sold it to the public in a wildly misleading fashion.

The worst part?

The mainstream media runs stories without any pushback.

Most outlets just reposted the government press release.

No investigating, no qualifiers.
