@PokemonGems @pk_chiptune The only water types that "outclass" Blastoise in gen 1 are Vaporeon and Starmie, and is easily the best starter for a playthrough run, where you could just... hit things with damaging moves instead of wasting time doing next to nothing with a mathematically inferior combo.
