@gwcarpenter 🤣I've only just seen that cover! Poor bird looks a bit disgruntled and ruffled - much like I feel after the wettest January in the NW Scotland that I can remember.
@ttnthane Hi @ttnthane I’ve not managed to put any of them online yet, but will try write a brief blog at some point. This wasn’t really a research project, but an attempt to document the personalities & working lives of local fishers...some who I’ve also worked with on fisheries projects.
Finally received my #photography higher project back from examiners, documenting local #fishermen at work in #scotland - it was a tough project to juggle with science day job & parenting, but so worth it. Big thanks to all those fishers who let me ‘shoot them’.
PhD OPPORTUNITY: Looking for excellent student for exciting project involving @thembauk@UniofExeter@CefasGovUK to examine ecosystem services provided by #kelp farming in #Cornwall -Please RT as VERY TIGHT deadline due to funding restrictions: https://t.co/jWPwQFWxfi
@BD_Stew@LochfyneLangous Ah right, I thought it was a result from a wider study. Thanks for clarifying 👍 I’d imagine that slide led to some debate in the room & would be interesting to hear what factors influence people’s answer to the question.
@BD_Stew Really interesting - did you look into how attitudes differ according to devolved administration, or according to fishery/gear type of respondents?
Always so important to read about how other countries manage their #fisheries to see what lessons can be learnt. Toady I'm learning about #Norway and #seaweed harvesting & collaboration between industry, research and nature conservation to develop Seaweed Management Plans #kelp
Apparently its #WorldHabitatDay so here's an obligatory tweet about #kelp forests which are VERY IMPORTANT marine habitats (found along ~25% of world's coastlines/high biodiversity/v high carbon uptake&transfer/ coastal defence/etc) #stillnokelpemoji#WorldHabitatDay2019
Today we’re launching a consultation on Scotland’s first-ever deep sea marine reserve: https://t.co/oUaJ4XFQWN Take a look at the diverse underwater landscape on this video clip: https://t.co/lcZZ8GYdoy @GreenerScotland @MairiGougeon @JNCC_UK@ScotEnvironment@OCSAM_Scot
On train just heading over Montrose estuary /basin at sunrise: the bird life is amazing!! Literally thousands of waders/shorebirds gathering. Migration season starting - wishing these little winged fellas luck on their massive journeys ahead @RSPBScotland
I just watched @scotrail staff empty contents of ALL these so called ‘recycling’ bins into ONE bag 😱 including general waste. Why separate our rubbish in the first place? So infuriating and saddening @NetworkRailSCOT Pure and depressing ‘greenwashing’ 😔
Managed to get whole family to #ClimateStrike by bike yesterday - 16 mile round trip over big hills, the oldest was 80 and the youngest 3 yrs. Seemed ironic to drive there 🙄 but for many it’s the only way in rural areas. Get on your #bicycles if you can folks! @GretaThunberg
