With Switzerland, we explored how Swiss innovation, private sector expertise, and high-quality solutions can better connect with Asia and the Pacific’s development needs. With Azerbaijan, we focused on urban infrastructure, water, transport, and its strategic role in connectivity through the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor. With partners from Belgium, France, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, we exchanged views on cofinancing, investment flows, and deeper strategic cooperation.
In a more complex world, results depend on execution. ADB will work with partners to deliver impact at scale.

ADB has launched a new Country Partnership Strategy for Azerbaijan.
It aims to support a green economy, promote low-carbon connectivity, and advance inclusive development.
I met with Minister of Finance and ADB Governor Sahil Babayev to launch the new @ADB_HQ Country Partnership Strategy for Azerbaijan. With new financing requests, ADB is prepared to invest up to $2.5B through 2029. We will work closely with the government to advance renewable energy, modernize rail and metro systems, and strengthen private sector growth.
Visited Ichiri Seher Metro Station and met with Baku Metro leadership to discuss the next phase of transit expansion. Under the @ADB_HQ Country Partnership Strategy, we are preparing support for metro modernization to improve mobility and strengthen connectivity across Baku.

I arrived in Baku as Azerbaijan strengthens its role connecting Asia and Europe. The country is advancing diversification, renewable energy, and new transport corridors. In the days ahead, I’ll meet leaders and partners to discuss how @ADB_HQ can help support this next chapter.
Türkiye links Asia and Europe and is now @ADB_HQ’s newest regional member. My visit marks the start of our operations in Türkiye and the launch of our Interim Country Partnership Strategy.
