For farmers focusing on meat production, a 100% Dorper breed should not be your main focus.

If you’re starting with local breeds, crossing to achieve 60–80% Dorper blood is often the smartest move. This upgrade delivers faster maturity and significantly higher slaughter weights while keeping the hardiness of your local sheep.

For those running a pure Dorper flock, 80% purity is perfectly acceptable for commercial meat production.

Quality Dorper genetics come at a cost. There is no such thing as high-quality and cheap. Be ready to invest properly, or continue with your local breeds until you have the capital and experience to upgrade.
