I’ve learnt of the heartbreaking news of Dr. Desree Moraa’s death by suicide.
We must hold this government accountable, for it aided her demise through systemic cruelty. How? By forcing her to work 36-hour shifts under brutal conditions; without food, without decent pay. By ensuring she endured unprofessional consultants who drained the life from her. If the Kenya Kwisha regime isn’t killing our youth with rogue police, it’s driving us to death through despair.
May this government, and all who enable its ills, fall.
May Dr. Moraa’s soul rest in peace. May her family get the strength to navigate these trying moments, with a divine peace that passeth all human understanding.

Debunking the medical officer intern salary:
The comparisons among professions is null and void, teachers, doctors, lawyers, pilots, engineers, architects, journalists, bankers, economists among many others work across different sectors with different salaries. Each profession has unique job requirements & duties and contributes to the economy differently.
Historically, medical internship was the entry point into public service for doctors. In public service, all graduates begin with a basic slaary salary ranging from kshs. 35,910 - 45,880.
The following allowances are applicable to all graduates in public service not only Medical officer Interns/Junior doctors:
House allowance - Kshs. 12,000 - kshs. 28,000 {depending on the town one works in}.
Commuter allowance - Kshs. 6,000
Unique allowances to the Medical Profession due to the nature of the job include:
⁃Emergency Call Allowance
⁃Health Worker Extraneous Allowance
⁃Health Worker Risk Allowance
⁃Non- Practice allowance {Introduced in 2001/2002 to improve the pay package of the doctor.
The medical officer intern is the junior most doctor, the nature of the job of the graduate doctors requires them to work beyond the 8:00am to 5:00pm standard working time.
Hospitals must offer services to Kenyans 24 hours round the clock, therefore junior doctors work together with their senior colleagues at night, on weekends and during public holidays.
Additionally, the occupational risks for instance needle pricks during procedures in the emergency departments, ward and theatre. HIV, airborne disease such as TB all fall in this category & are compensated for by the risk allowance,
The salaries were progressively improved between 2001 - 2017 & have always been a budgetary item on the @MOH_Kenya annual budget. The health workforce expenditure is the MOST important item in any healthcare system, without the workers you CANNOT offer services.
The 2016 @srckenya job evaluation survey and report captured all this, the irony is that all this is being disregarded by the same government by reducing the pay to between Kshs, 47,000 - Kshs. 70,000.
What we are witnessing is a dishonest and bullish government that neither values professions nor the quality of health care services offered to its citizens.
