We will aim to share positive stories about disability and share our views on policy issues from the perspective of everyday Australians with disabilities
As a disabled woman, I rarely see bodies like mine represented positively, let alone celebrated for days like #InternationalWomensDay.
It's time for that to change.
Ahead of #IWD I’m supporting the More Voices, More Representation campaign to create a more intersectional IWD.
No, just no. Can we not start the year by going round again on means testing the #NDIS? I would have expected the #IMF to know better economics than this. Its exactly what was wrong with the old system of #disability supports in Australia
Today, we sadly say goodbye to our CEO of 6 years, Dr Ellen Skladzien.
Under Ellen’s guidance, Down Syndrome Australia has been able to grow our impact, credibility, and reputation.
You will be greatly missed Ellen. We wish you and your family all the best for 2023.
TW: abuse and neglect. #NDIS participant subjected to dirty houses, rotten food and rats at the hands of a registered NDIS support provider. @criprights@Kavanagh_AM @billshortenmp @EveryAustralian https://t.co/2wSQKcDfNK
Just had my NDIS reassessment meeting. 2 hours with someone who really was trying to make it work best for me. We compared 3 years ago to now and realised how much NDIS has enriched my life.
This week DSA was part of an online round table to discuss improving employment options for people with intellectual disability and the need to transition away from ADE models.
We look forward to continuing the conversation to ensure changes in law, policy and outcomes.
Unpopular opinion.
If your event requires me to use a different method of booking to everyone else because you'll need to know in advance I'll be using a wheelchair, your event is not accessible.

When's the last time you spoke with your disabled team mates about how you could help them feel safer at work?
A common issue with disabled leaders is feeling unsafe in their workplace. This can happen in many ways, not just physically.
I won’t use this platform to name and shame but there is still a long way to go in improving the customer service of some pure disability organisations. We need increased competition in the sector to improve the service.
Well done to all the State Building Ministers who have supported this. Shame on you @MarkMcGowanMP and @Dom_Perrottet - people with disabilities need equal access to all housing! #DisabilityTwitter
People with disability bring diverse skills, experience & make significant contributions. We know community attitudes are one of the biggest barriers to employment facing people with disability, & these discussions will allow us to reflect these experiences at the Jobs Summit.
Great to launch the #accessibilty features of the PARK’nPAY app today with @VictorDominello@gabrielleupton. Being able to use the app to find accessible parking spots & identify if they’re free in real time will greatly enhance mobility pass holders journeys. Great initiative!
