A special gift for Alexander Zverev and how his girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, experienced the final.

Thomalla had actually planned to leave Cologne, where she’s currently working, for Paris once the final was over. "No one could have guessed it would take so long. So I had to leave earlier, right after the fourth set, which he had just lost. That train was the last one to Paris."

But there were issues with the ticket; the online booking didn't work. "I was standing on the platform with my dog, crying. The conductor must have recognized me and knew why I was going to Paris. ‘Get on board, we’ll sort this out inside’. That was so kind."

"It was too nerve-wracking. I couldn’t watch it anymore after the fourth set. I just glanced at the score on the train-it was 4:0-so I turned it back on."

In a bag with her: "This is Buba, 15 weeks old and the second dog, along with Mishka, who now belongs to Sascha and me. Sascha spent an hour and a half playing with him, so we ended up being way late for dinner."

"It’s like an incredible weight has been lifted off his shoulders. I’m so incredibly proud that he was able to handle that pressure. I couldn’t care less who he was playing against. He can only compete against the players who are actually there. Now that he’s broken through, he’s going to win two or three more of those matches."
