RE: SPEAKERSHIP RACE
I wish to draw the attention of the public to the matters regarding the Speakership race.
After wide consultations and deep introspection, and to maintain harmony and clarity in my beloved party, the @NRMOnline, I wish to categorically and unequivocally state that I will not be offering myself for the Speakership race of the 12th Parliament.
I am greatly indebted to H.E @KagutaMuseveni, my party, the @NRMOnline, and members of the 11th Parliament for giving me the opportunity to serve as Deputy Speaker and Speaker.
I am equally indebted to my family and friends for the solidarity and support they have extended to me over the last five years.
I pledge my total support to the candidates who will be endorsed by the President and the Party, and Implore all colleague MPs of the 12th Parliament to do the same.
I shall remain available to the service of my country as the party and the President may assign me.
In the meantime, I pledge to continue cooperating with all ongoing investigations as initiated by the relevant organs of the state to get to the root of all the allegations raised.
FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY.

President @KagutaMuseveni has backed plans for an East African regional refinery following a meeting with Nigerian billionaire @AlikoDangote at Nakasero.
In a statement released on May 17, 2026, Museveni said the meeting focused on the proposed refinery and regional cooperation in the oil sector.
Museveni said Uganda has always opposed the export of raw materials without value addition. He noted that this position partly delayed Uganda’s oil production because the government insisted on establishing a refinery before full crude exports.
“Without refining our oil, it would not make economic or strategic sense to simply export crude oil while others benefit from the finished products,” Museveni said.
The President welcomed the idea of a larger regional refinery, saying it aligns with Uganda’s push for African integration and shared prosperity.
“We cannot continue operating as fragmented and weak markets. If East Africa works together, such projects become more viable and beneficial to our people,” Museveni added.
Museveni said Uganda remains committed to supporting the regional refinery initiative while continuing the development of its own refinery in Hoima.
Uganda has for years pushed plans for the Hoima oil refinery as part of efforts to maximise gains from its petroleum resources. The refinery project is expected to support industrialisation, reduce fuel import dependence and create jobs.
Dangote owns the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, which is regarded as Africa’s largest refinery. The facility has become central to discussions on regional energy security and fuel supply across the continent.
The meeting comes at a time when East African countries are seeking deeper economic integration through infrastructure and energy projects.
Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, greetings.
After consultations with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders, we have decided to postpone the Martyrs' Day to a later date, which will be communicated.
This decision was made because Uganda receives thousands of pilgrims annually from Eastern Congo, which is currently experiencing an Ebola outbreak. To safeguard everyone's lives, it is essential that this important event be postponed.
I encourage those who had begun their journey to return home, continue observing the precautionary measures, report anyone who is sick, and encourage those who are ill to seek medical care.
We regret any inconvenience caused, but the protection of life must come first.
Signed:
Yoweri K. Museveni
