1+ year in payments and one thing I hear all the time - "this is broken, that is broken."
And fair… a lot is broken
But sometimes I just pause and laugh.
Because imagine sitting in 1920s Lagos, Mumbai, or São Paulo trying to explain this:
"You’ll carry a small glass in your hand.
Tap it a few times.
And money will move across continents instantly."
They’d look at you, and ask: "Which strain you smoke?"
No banks on every corner.
No SWIFT.
No internet.
No concept of "send $50k to China in minutes."
Just vibes and handwritten ledgers.
Fast forward to today…
Globalization happened.
Infrastructure got built.
People built this.
Not perfect. Far from it.
But definitely not nothing.
And in emerging markets where you're building on top of real constraints (regulation, FX, trust, infra) we’ve still come this far.
So yes - call out what’s broken. We need that!
But also… small perspective.
Some people are in the arena every day trying to fix this thing piece by piece.
Omo shoutout to the OGs🙏🏾. "If e easy, go do am."
Let’s keep pushing systems forward instead of only running commentary like Jon Champion😂
Because one day, people will look at what we have today… and laugh the same way we’re laughing at the past.
I don’t know if it’s my circle or if our generation is just more financially aware.
Hearing guys analyze MPR like macroeconomists in casual convo.
Wild.
Really sad about the kidnappings and killings happening in Nigeria.
They abduct school children who just want to learn. Gallant soldiers are losing their lives. People gather to worship in peace and suddenly, everything turns to tragedy.
My heart goes out to everyone affected - friends, families, entire communities.
At the end of the day, we are our own first layer of security.
If you see something, say something!
You might just be saving a soul.
I’ve recently picked up a hobby of taking photos of buildings I find architecturally beautiful.
Something about SF architecture just hits differently.
Guess where this one is?
