Since approximately 7 p.m. last night, Firefighters have responded to three more fires across #Ottawa.
The first fire occurred at approximately 7:37 p.m., when the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 0-100 block of Valencia Street reporting an electric scooter on fire inside the attached garage of a single-family home.
Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed heavy black and brown smoke coming from the open garage door. Crews initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line toward the garage. The electric scooter was moved to the laneway, where Firefighters extinguished the flames.
Due to the quick response and fast attack, the fire was declared under control at 7:47 p.m., four minutes after Firefighters arrived on scene and before the flames could spread to the garage. Firefighters used high-pressure fans to ventilate a small amount of residual smoke that had entered the home.
There are no reported injuries and the residents were not displaced.
The second fire occurred just after midnight, at 12:14 a.m., when a 9-1-1 caller reported a fire in an upstairs townhome in the 1700 block of Meadowbrook Road.
Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed smoke coming from a second-storey window. Crews were met outside by a resident who stated they were the only person inside at the time and had safely evacuated.
Importantly, the resident was woken up and alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.
Firefighters advanced a hose line to the second floor while another crew began searching the structure. Crews encountered heavy smoke conditions upstairs and located the fire inside a bedroom. The flames were extinguished before they could spread to the rest of the home.
Two full searches of the structure confirmed no other occupants were inside. The fire was declared under control at 12:40 a.m.
Victim Assistance was requested for the resident, who will be displaced due to the fire. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene.
The third fire occurred at approximately 3:56 a.m., when a 9-1-1 caller reported a bedroom fire in an apartment located above a commercial complex in the 1000 block of Merivale Road.
Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed smoke and flames coming from second-storey windows. Crews were met by residents outside who had safely evacuated.
Firefighters attacked the flames through an exterior window before making entry into the structure to continue extinguishing the fire. The fire was declared under control at 4:24 a.m.
A thermal imaging camera was used to confirm the fire had not extended into the walls. Two full searches of the structure confirmed all residents had safely evacuated.
Victim Services was dispatched to the scene, along with an @OttFire Investigator. #OttNews

Crews located the fire unit on the seventh floor, advanced a hose line inside and began extinguishing the flames while searching the unit for any occupants. The fire was declared under control at 7:16 p.m. and was contained to the unit of origin before it could spread to other units.
Firefighters completed two full searches of the unit and confirmed no occupants were inside. Sadly, one dog and one cat were located deceased. Firefighters used high-pressure fans to remove residual smoke from the building and confirmed the air quality was safe for residents. An Ottawa Fire Services Investigator was dispatched to the scene. The second fire occurred just after midnight, at approximately 12:05 a.m., when the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call reporting a kitchen fire in the 100 block of Tacom Circle.
Upon arrival, Firefighters reported smoke coming from a two-storey end-unit townhouse. Crews were met by residents outside who confirmed everyone had safely escaped, but that two cats remained inside.
Firefighters advanced a hose line inside and located the flames in the kitchen while additional crews searched the structure. The fire was extinguished and contained to the kitchen. Firefighters completed two full searches and confirmed no occupants were inside. Both cats were safely located and brought outside.
The fire was declared under control at 12:36 a.m. A thermal imaging camera was used to confirm the fire had not spread into the walls of the kitchen. There are no reported injuries.
The third fire occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m., when the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire in a two-storey townhome in the 700 block of Belisle Street.
Upon arrival, Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home. Residents advised crews that everyone had self-evacuated. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line inside.
Firefighters and Paramedics worked together to assess and treat multiple residents from the home for smoke inhalation. Inside the home, Firefighters encountered zero-visibility conditions while searching for any occupants and extinguishing the flames.

Firefighters faced multiple hazards during an early morning barn fire in Metcalfe.
At 12:44 a.m., Ottawa Fire Services Communications received a 9-1-1 call from a homeowner reporting that one of their large barns was on fire and that the flames were spreading to nearby barns in the 3000 block of 8th line Road.
Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed that two barns were fully involved in fire and that crews would be operating in extreme heat conditions. As the incident occurred in an area without hydrants, tanker trucks were used to shuttle water from a nearby water source to support Firefighting operations.
Firefighters advanced multiple hose lines to attack the fire while simultaneously protecting nearby structures from the intense heat and flames. Embers carried by the wind ignited several small spot fires in surrounding hay and brush. A brush truck was dispatched to extinguish these fires and prevent further spread.
Crews faced several hazards throughout the incident, including downed live hydro wires, fuel tanks located adjacent to the barns, and structural collapses. An aerial ladder was deployed to provide an elevated attack on the fire.
The property owners were able to remove most of the animals from the barns before Firefighters arrived. Unfortunately, one horse and several chickens perished in the fire.
Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby exposures, and the incident was declared under control at 2:06 a.m. An excavator was brought to the scene to assist with overhaul operations, allowing crews to access debris and extinguish remaining hot spots.
Firefighters protected the resident’s home and they will not be displaced. A total of three barns were lost in the fire.
A fire watch remains on scene to monitor for flare-ups and continue extinguishing hot spots.
An @OttFire Investigator is on scene.
There were no civilian or Firefighter injuries reported. #OttNews
