Caffè Grande Abaco is a real statement venue - a grand townhouse on the pretty high street in Uppermill specialising in some of the very best in European cuisine.
Set over four storeys, it’s a spot to descend on after a walk around the nearby Dovestone Reservoir, and then feast.
There’s plenty of locally sourced produce, from the artisan bread and handmade chocolate, to the local honey, Saddleworth milk, and brownies from nearby Flitcroft, while the charcuterie and cheese boards bring together the two - the best Italian and Spanish meats around rubbing shoulders with a cracking Wensleydale.
You can head there for breakfast on the sunny terrace (they even have their own coffee blend), and stick around all day - just make sure you get a slice of the Tarta Santiago, the famous Galician almond cake.
They even have a grab-and-go Italian cafe directly across the road called Veloce, with all sorts of baked treats and speciality coffees.
@David__Osland Bent as anything. We sold under a compulsory order. Bizarre, impersonal, totally disorganised, very unpleasant. They were changing the locks on our house before they’d paid us on moving day.
San Maurizio d’Opaglio to Lymm. 1008 miles. 19.5 hours door to door. Irish Ferries Dover to Calais. Dacia Sandero turns out to be a Grand Tourer as well.
Just under 12 hours Milan to Calais. Aboard the Irish Ferry ‘Oscar Wilde’. On which I have plenty to declare. Mainly that it’s not quite the greatest tribute to his legacy.
