Maximum temperature reports across the country as at Wednesday 19th February were mostly between 38 – 40℃. 38℃ Port Harcourt, Owerri, Enugu, Awka, Bida, Minna, Gusau, Iseyin and the FCT.
39℃ Sokoto, Kebbi, Lokoja, Makurdi, Abakaliki, Ikom, Jalingo and Yola. 40℃ Yelwa

Air temperatures are expected to stay within this band and rise slightly in some locations. Expected moisture influx which should reach far inland up to the central states will in conjunction with the high temperatures increase discomfort levels. Early morning, day and night temperatures will feel warmer than their real values and create more discomfort.

Areas to be most affected includes parts of Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Kogi, Oyo, Kwara, Niger, the FCT, Bayelsa, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Osun, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and Benue states.

With audience being people with no prior knowledge of oil & gas, I like to start my “Introduction to Oil & Gas” sessions by explaining, in the most layman’s term, how petroleum (crude oil/crude gas) is formed.

Crude oil/gas is formed from dead and decomposed PLANTS and ANIMALS that have been buried in sediments and subject to heat, pressure etc over millions of years.

And that is why it is called fossil fuel. Fossil simply means remains of dead plants and animals - bones, shells etc.

I also like to teach them why crude oil is called NON RENEWABLE source of energy.

I carry the nearest bottle of water in class, display it and tell them: as you’re seeing this 75 CL bottle, if I drill and bring out 75 cl of crude oil from the ground, it took millions of years for it form.

So it will take millions of years to replace/renew it and it occurs from natural phenomenon, not me deliberately replacing it.

I won’t be alive in millions of years. It won’t renew in my lifetime. So, technically, it is not renewable (replaceable) in my lifetime. The known available volume under the ground (called reserve) reduces with every 75 cl bottle of crude I bring out.

Nigeria currently brings out about 1.8m barrels per day from its total proven (confirmed) reserve of about 37 billion barrels. A barrel is like a drum. So 1.8m “drums” of crude oil are brought out of the ground daily without renewal.

It depletes as you are bringing them out. It is called finite resources for this reason. Finite means it has an end.

Compare to RENEWABLE sources of energy - sun (solar), water (hydro), wind etc. As you are generating energy from sun, the sun does not reduce. It will still come out tomorrow in full. Water being used in a dam does not reduce because you are using it to generate electricity. Wind does not reduce because you are using them as source of energy. They RENEW automatically. That’s why they are called renewable sources of energy.

Compared to non-renewables like crude oil/gas, which though they also renew, but never in your lifetime.

Most people don't know how much energy is 1 kw.

Okay let's do this maths using a 1 hp AC .

Your 1 hp AC is equivalent to 745w = 0.7456 kw

1. For one hour of your AC you spend 0.7456 x N225 =
190.00 approx

2. For five hours you spend 3.725 X N225 = 949.50

3. For 12 hours of 1hp AC you spend 8.94 x N225 = N2279.7

In a nut shell if you are using a 1-hp AC at between 18 to 25 degrees for 5 hours everyday .. you are likely to spend 30,000 monthly on the new rate ..

So if Two of that same AC running for 5 hours each na 60k.

But it also depends how cold or hot the weather is because air conditioners have a thermostat which interrupts consumption when not cooling.

The higher the temperature settings of the AC you set the temperature the less kilowatts used to cool. (ie 21 degree upward)

That being said,
This calculation was tested on a verified brand of 1-hp AC from likes of LG, Midea ,Samsung.

**Hisense, esp ratings are not usually correct - and will draw you more than a kilowatt per hour even if it is rated as 1 hp inverter Ac.

The bottom line is this,
if you don't have heavy domestic equipment like AC, electric cooker, pressing iron, 65 inch TV or water heater - this new bill is way cheaper than the flat rate those NEPA criminals have been collecting from you for the past 3 years.

Because your regular table fan only consumes about 17w per hour (0.0017kilowatt) at lower speeds and 42.5watt (0.0425 kilowatt) at high speed.

You have to leave that FAN on and running for 58 hours before it consumes N225.
Mind you DC fans even consume way much less.

You’re on a journey on this kind of lonely road with your car and your car suddenly develops a fault, You can’t call for help and your lines can’t be reached due to network issues, what do you do?

Except the car will stop and the engine won’t come up again, please reduce your speed and accelerate softly till you get to a nearby town, if it is an overheating issue, keep driving, put the gear in the neutral position and switch off the engine and let the car keep moving, switch it back on when you have to ascend a hilly road and the car can’t move freely on its own again.

If the battery signal comes up while driving, chances are that your alternator has failed, or the alternator belt is damaged, apply the same method and switch off your AC, radio system or anything that may drain the battery while driving till you get to a safe place.

If it is a flat tyre, maintain a low speed till you get to a safe place to change and use your spare, keep moving. Yes!!! Damage that tyre till you get to a safe place, just keep moving and make sure you have a spare tyre always and it is in a good condition.

If the engine suddenly goes off on top speed, chances are that a fuse is damaged and this is why I will make a thread on how to identify different fuses and how to have them fixed temporarily in case of Emergencies.

If your car jerks or experiences a lazy movement while driving, it’s likely to be a fuel related issue, fuel pump most likely, switch off the engine intermittently and put the gear in Neutral position, keep moving… if the fuel pump rests for about 5mins, it’ll pick up back when you ignite the engine, this will/may at least take you to a safe place or where you can have access to network to make calls.

If you hear strange sounds like knocking sounds or the oil signal starts to blink, relax and reduce your speed, keep moving. Manage it till you get to a safe place or can have access to network.

If your gear/transmission system isn’t selecting well, apply the same method, reduce your speed but keep moving, slow movement is better than no movement, your life and safety matters a lot.

Please note that there are some Mechanical issues that nothing can solve on the road except patience and just to pray to God for safety and help, for example, you run into a pothole unknowingly and the oil pan hits the road and your engine or gear oil leaks away, or your ball joint or tie rod head pulls out, I’ll suggest you leave the car there, roll up your windows and lock up the car and start trekking till you get network or help, staying with the car may make you vulnerable to attacks or attract unexpected company, just keep walking away from the car for safety.

Most importantly, please stay safe and be conscious of your environment.

Be friendly with your Mechanic too or any Mechanic you see on the road.

Don’t manage faults in cars and risk traveling with it.
