building a quote calculator for a printing company with the help of ai (part 01)

one week ago, just before leaving for sardinia, i told you that a friend who runs production at a printing company had called me.

even if my usual work is with real estate companies, i wanted to help in this project.

he told me about a problem in their large format printing department.

printing jobs can use many different materials, sizes, options and prices. but most erp systems are either not flexible enough for their needs or too complex for the team to use every day.

because of this, the people preparing quotes still calculate prices by hand using this excel price list.

the team is experienced and has worked this way for years. giving them a complicated tool or system now would only make their job harder.

so the first goal is simple.

understand how they work and build something easy to use that helps them prepare quotes faster without changing everything.

this excel file is where the project started.

before writing any code, i needed to understand what was inside it and how the team actually calculates a quote.
