The first true Outback Bowl, also known as the Mud Bowl, was played on January 1, 1996 between @PennStateFball and @AuburnFootball.
PSU turned a close first half into a blowout and ended up winning 43-14. PSU’s 43pts would stand as an Outback Bowl record for 20 years until 2016.
The 2012 Outback Bowl was an instant classic.
Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins led a late 85-yard drive to tie the game before OT.
Finally after 3OTs, the @MSU_Football defense comes up with a huge blocked FG and wins 33-30 over the Georgia Bulldogs.

The 25th edition of the game was between two legendary CFB coaches - Urban Meyer, who was coaching his last game with the Gators, & Joe Paterno, which was his final time coaching PSU in a bowl game.
Florida ended up winning 37-24.
The 2000 Outback Bowl saw Drew Brees set or tie six individual bowl records - and lose.
@GeorgiaFootball defeated Purdue 28-25 in OT, coming back from a 25-0 deficit. Brees threw for 378 yards, one of 22 bowl records set or tied that day.

9 years after their first matchup ever, Alabama & Michigan met again in the 1997 Outback Bowl.

UM led 21-3, but Bama stormed back to take a 24-21 lead. UM then had a go ahead TD with 50 seconds left to win 28-24 in an all-time classic
After getting steamrolled by Ohio St 59-0 in the Big Ten Title, @BadgerFootball was not to be denied in the 2015 Outback Bowl.
Wisconsin kicked a FG with 11 seconds left to send the game to OT & knocked off Auburn in a 34-31 thriller after the Tigers missed a 45 yd FG in OT.
12/23/1986: Before the first true Outback Bowl 10 years later, the inaugural soon-to-be Outback Bowl was known as the Hall of Fame Bowl game, @BCFootball QB Shawn Halloran hit WR Kelvin Martin in the end zone with 32 seconds remaining to steal a 27-24 win from Georgia.
The 27th Outback Bowl was one not to forget, and certainly not this play. Jadeveon Clowney rocked Michigan RB Vincent Smith after a controversial call by the officials. The fumble gave possession back to South Carolina.
@GamecockFB ended up winning 33-28 and finishing 11-2.
