Man I am enjoying this. I admit I’m coming off like an extremist in my point making but I have something in me that I’ve always had that when I see something that I clearly feel is unfair and damaging to a community, I am going to stand up and say something.

And I feel a responsibility for music as a whole in a way, because my dad truly felt a responsibility for music. Playing music your way is a mantle that takes a lot of resolve, hope and imagination… thick skin. I respect every single person who has a dream and believes in themselves enough to jump in and try and make that dream a reality.

So I saw how there, for the good and the band, was an economic engine in place that could lift up a dirt poor man from Littlefield, TX to a national star. He had to fight that system and he fought a battle with RCA that, when he won it, it allowed every other artist in Nashville to be able to make their own music their way with their own musicians in any studio they wanted to in most cases. So much damage was done that RCA had to sell their studios. My dad fought for the underdog and the artists struggling to have their dream happen the way they want it.

So, I feel this need to speak up because I have a platform and I have an advantage that most people don’t have.

I’m not saying that everything that’s come from streaming is bad. The fact that labels have to do splits and licensing deals and not own the albums forever is a side effect of at least the internet…

But this global level of exposure you are talking about is only because of the internet. If they stuck with the iTunes model and never went to streaming that exposure wouldn’t change. I’m attacking the payout of streaming directly and that model in general.
