Grateful to Amb. Shyam Saran for this very thoughtful review in @bsindia of our new @OUPAcademic book, "Institutional Roots of India's Security Policy," https://t.co/nVMGdyEScO
Election commission has contempt for the electorate, and fears those in power We, the people of India, heartily reciprocate the first sentiment. As for the second, history will shame you, and laugh at your children, as happened with the servants of Franco, Salazar @ECISVEEP
To Quote Dr Roy, "repeated failure of successive governments to deliver widespread, equitable development and adequate employment opportunities has led to the creation of a “compensatory state,” where welfare benefits are transferred directly to citizens to compensate
Silly headline but great piece

Rising Inequality means disproportionate accumulation of capital in the few hands at the cost of so many at the bottom level fighting to survive.
Its hazardous to any nation and its potential.
Completely agree
It’s not just about the tax gdp
Ratio - there are many ways to mobilise resources and push the envelope but we have to (1) be willing to do it (2) be able to do it
Can we? Yes we can!
As Keynes famously said, if you can do it you can afford it.
Rising inequality in India means we are squandering our potential, creating deeper social divisions and depriving the next generation. But this is a policy choice--and can be changed.
What is oxidative stress which is damaging the Sundarbans in India?
- Oxidative stress is a condition that occurs when pollutants, such as heavy metals and acidic components in the air, cause an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygenated species (ROS) and the ability of the mangrove ecosystem to neutralize them.
- ROS are highly reactive molecules that can damage cellular structures, including proteins, lipids, and DNA. When the production of ROS exceeds the antioxidant capacity of the mangrove cells, oxidative stress occurs, leading to cellular damage and potentially compromising the health and resilience of the ecosystem.
In the context of the Sundarbans mangrove ecosystem, oxidative stress induced by air pollutants like black carbon and heavy metals from Kolkata and the Indo-Gangetic Plain poses a significant threat to the delicate balance of this vital ecosystem.
