It's been a good minute since I've been on this app, kodwa sana now that I look back at my old tweets I'm shocked at how much of an outlet this space was and continues to be for a lot of people 🥹🔥.
All three previous albums have been different to one another. The first was pure private school, In Ivy League he introduced his commercial sound and added more dance tracks, appealing to more people (Hence he has a cult now), In Amukelani he expanded on this commercial sound but added more Jazz elements and swayed back to soulful melodies, I would say Kurhula is a blend of all three—there are songs that would fit in MPS, some that would fit in Ivy League, and some that would fit in Amukelani. All that and he has still retained his soulfulness AND still adapted to the evolving genre.
The issue here is you listened with the element of comparison already inscribed in you. “Can he do better than Amukelani”. It’s not his worst, it’s his most different album. We hear elements of afro-trap, deep house, and 3-step. It’s an exploration and judging it after 10 hours wouldn’t do justice. But hey that’s your opinion 🤷🏻♂️
