Artists are spending more time marketing than making music.

3 opportunities that excite me most in music today.

1. Social. Music is as close to a universal language that we have. No DSP today focuses or attempts social to connect music lovers with one another. Need to make the community feel alive not some random numbers.

2. Turning users into tastemakers. Most DSPs monopolize the curation ability by running editorial playlists. Think there is a much bigger opportunity to empower bottoms up curation by turning users into the editorial arms. Tiktok / Soundcloud did this really well. Wisdom of the crowds will always beat platform run editorial

3. Superfans. DSPs are incredible at getting lots of people to spend little amounts of money. The inverse is still missing today from music.

@soundxyz_ is experimenting in all 3. Never been more excited.

One of my favorite parts of @soundxyz_ has been meeting other music lovers and seeing communities form around certain interests.

Today music curation on platforms is determined by editorial playlists run by the platforms themselves. On DSPs, the UGC playlists are buried in the background. We think the biggest playlists, curators on sound should be run by users not Sound.

Channels are inspired by the blog era where a decentralized web of music lovers could break new artists, we’ve created a home for people to share new songs, write about why they love them, and meet people who share the same music interests.

When you combine rich story telling in a social feed with social content combined with dead simple ways to support artists through their music we can create a new type of music economy.

@soundxyz_ is just getting started.
