Brooklyn Man Files $100M Claim Against NYPD After Alleged Wrongful Beating During Arrest
A Brooklyn man who was seen in bystander video being beaten and wrongfully arrested inside a liquor store has filed a notice of claim against the NYPD, signaling plans to sue the department for $100 million. Timothy Brown, a home health aide and security guard, says he was attacked by two plainclothes detectives on April 14 while buying wine after work.
Brown alleges he was not the suspect police were looking for and was left with serious injuries including head trauma, a black eye, and leg injuries after being slammed into a glass display and dragged across broken glass. The Brooklyn District Attorney later dropped the charges, while the NYPD says the officers involved are under internal investigation and have been placed on modified duty.
Authorities have stated the detectives believed Brown matched the description of a suspect in a narcotics case, though no drugs were found on him. The incident has prompted internal discipline measures and reassignment of multiple officers as the investigation continues.
