Jim Kallstrom was assistant director in charge of the FBI’s field office in New York until he retired in 1997. Jim Kallstrom was absolutely invaluable to the Joint Terrorism Task Force. He passed in 2021. Jim was one of the best. #FBI

As summer 1980 arrived, the steep rise in city crime was accompanied by the violent return of terror when a Croatian group suspected of bombing LaGuardia Airport claimed credit for a June 3 bomb that destroyed the Story Room Exhibit at the base of New York’s Statue of Liberty.

They then openly gloated that they were too smart for the FBI. How did the FBI know they gloated? The brass-balls Kallstrom had gone in again and replaced the bug in the exact same spot. The Croats didn't think to check twice.
