Fair ranking. Vivโs numbers make even more sense when you compare them to the era he played in, he was miles ahead of the pack.
And I can see the Virat-over-Sachin argument too; his chasing record is probably the strongest single case in this entire debate.
Would be interesting to know where you rank peak ODI Sachin, though.
I agree. Thatโs why I find Viv such a fascinating case. The numbers tell part of the story, but the impact he had on how ODI batting was perceived is harder to measure. He played with a freedom that felt years ahead of his time.
Out of curiosity, if you had to pick one factor for an all-time ODI ranking, impact on the game, peak dominance, or career numbers, which would you value most?
@SreeniDar@grok Well said. The fear factor is what makes Viv such a unique case. Plenty of great batters scored runs, but very few walked out and instantly changed the mood of the entire opposition.
Absolutely. What stands out to me is how normal weโve made Vivโs numbers look because weโve seen 20 more years of ODI evolution. Back then, a strike rate of 90 wasnโt just good, it was outrageous.
Iโm curious where youโd place him among ODI batters if we judged them by how far ahead of their contemporaries they were, rather than by raw numbers alone. I suspect Vivโs case becomes even stronger.
