This is actually the central tragedy of the entire Targaryen story. House of the Dragon shows you the dynasty at its peak, while Game of Thrones shows you its aftermath.
Here’s the timeline:
1. The Dance of the Dragons broke House Targaryen
The Dance of the Dragons wasn’t just a civil war,it was a catastrophe.
* Most of the dragons died fighting each other.
* Many Targaryen princes and princesses were ïļļed
* The dynasty survived, but its greatest weapon was nearly wiped out.
After the Dance, the remaining dragons became smaller and weaker. Within a few generations, they had all died out
2. The Targaryens ruled for another 150+ years
Even without dragons, the Targaryens remained kings of Westeros.
During that time:
* They faced rebellions.
* They fought internal succession disputes.
* Some kings were brilliant, while others were disastrous.
The dynasty slowly became less stable without dragons to enforce its authority.
3. Then came Robert’s Rebellion
The final blow came under Aerys II Targaryen, the “M@d King.”
His paranoia and cruelty united many great houses against him.
During Robert’s Rebellion:
* Rhaegar Targaryen was kïļļed.
* Aerys II was slain by Jaime Lannister.
* The royal family was overthrown.
* The surviving children, Viserys Targaryen and Daenerys Targaryen, fled across the Narrow Sea.
By the start of Game of Thrones, only a handful of Targaryens remain.
4. Where did Daenerys’ eggs come from?
This is one of the series’ enduring mysteries.
In Game of Thrones, Illyrio Mopatis gives Daenerys three fossilized dragon eggs as a wedding gift.
He says they came from the Shadow Lands beyond Asshai, but he never explains exactly how he acquired them.
Many fans believe they are incredibly ancient eggs that were preserved for centuries after the extinction of dragons.
BREAKING: LeBron James will continue his NBA career for the 2026-27 season and has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that the franchise can move on without him because he will play elsewhere, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN.
Just went on a deep dive of the Targaryen blood line and now I’m pissed. All that talk about “the prince that was promised”, but it’s Arya that kills the night king?!
Just here to remind you that if @Marvel@MarvelComicsHQ made an x-men series where magneto’s origin is a black kid born during the Jim Crow, that book would sell out instantly. And the movie … billions.
@BigNupe697@LockDownDefense All great points. And this may be my bias showing, but I have to go with Maul on the venator during order 66. Clones were dropping Jedi left and right, and here is Maul trapped on their ship in hyper space with no light saber … giving them WORK!
and this is why education is important because the republican party under donald trump and the republican party under abraham lincoln are two very different things
